Some sun, some clouds, and a wonderful day. Took the Dick Thomas Trail over to the Two Chiefs trail up through the amphitheater of Table to the creek crossing of Greenleaf. Microspikes were handy in a few places but not required. The snow was about 6 inches once we hit about 1000 feet, but it is melting fast. Beautiful ice and snow formations. Great views thr...

I carried snowshoes but did not need them. MICROspikes were very useful, though. No view when entering the high-elevation meadows near Puppy Point due to low clouds.

Headed down to the park yesterday with my buddy Tyson and did a ski tour up to Panorama Point. We then followed the Ridge Line SE towards a really nice wide open bowl. That bowl eventually led us back down to the Paradise Road below the Visitors Center. It was a gorgeous day on the Mountain. There was fog on the drive in and dark clouds surrounding the Tatto...

Picked an awesome day to trek up to Sherrard Point from Multnomah Falls with Mountainkat. Ice on the trail, even below the Benson Bridge, kept all the tourists at bay. Saw just one fellow along the way going up, three couples arrived from the snow gate while we were on the summit, and then nobody again until we hit the paved trail near the bottom going down....

Brutally cold as in 5 degrees with a windchill of -7 overnight.

Following a massive snowfall, we went to check out the summit on Teneriffe. Full video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1He5vr5WOss

- 2:30-4:30 PM (2 Hours) - Trail was a bit confusing. Other hikers took wrong turns, and so did we towards the end. There are two exits to two different parking lots. - Some ice. - Not much wildlife. - Good for rock climbing / rappelling. - Beautiful view of valley!

January 3, 2016 B-Dog 5 miles 2,000 feet gained

Went out to find some secret stashes of this epic pow near Snoqualmie. We found a couple nice pockets, but there is a lot of wind blown slabs and variable slope conditions. Be careful out there if you are traveling into the backcountry !!! Other than that, it felt great to get off the couch and burn off some of the Holiday Calories. Looking forward to explor...

Parked at the bridge (it is gated here) over the Muddy Fork of the Sandy and skied up to the Ramona Falls TH and then another mile up the Ramona Falls trail. We were the first ones on the trail and the snow was perfect for skiing. Passed two groups who were heading up to the falls and then another three skiing groups. The wind was surprisingly calm and temps...

Windy day & on the cooler side, but awesome views. This little park is probably my favorite place on the coast. The road to second parking area (at Indian Beach) is closed because of storm damage but that means less crowded trails.

Took our first snowshoe trip to South Coldwater Trail. Unfortunately had to cut the day short about a 1/4 to 1/2 mile away from the equipment. The sustained winds were bad enough to knock Mark over and make me have to sit down to avoid being tossed down the hill. Regardless, we had a blast for our first time snowshoeing!

Wanted to avoid the subzero windchill in the mountains so headed to the relatively balmy coast. Hiked 7.0 miles RT starting from Seaside, a little short of the camp / WWII bunker. The trail was really thrashed from recent storms with lots of blow down and two major landslides. Other than bushwhacking through two blown down areas the trail was not terribly di...

Bang for the buck on this hike was off the charts! Only a couple steep sections and you are rewarded with awesome lake scenery and big peaks in the distance. Lake was totally frozen, not another soul in sight. <iframe src="http://my.viewranger.com/track/widget/2257415?locale=en&amp;m=miles" width="540" height="540" marginwidth="0" frameborder="0" scrolling="...

Easy snowshoe into the edge of Flathead Nat'l Forest along a forest service road. Lots of animal tracks, including cougar and lynx. Snow was about 15-18" deep, fluffy powder. <iframe src="http://my.viewranger.com/track/widget/2257414?locale=en&amp;m=miles" width="540" height="540" marginwidth="0" frameborder="0" scrolling="no"></iframe>

December 30, 2015 Mountainkat 5 miles 2,500 feet gained

(Dec 31) One last hike this year. We hit snow around 1000 feet elevation. It was packed down and icy. Traction helped. There was about a foot of snow at the summit and bright blue, sunny skies! After the hike, we drove to Lookout State Park on the coast, walked a couple miles on Netarts Spit, and carried on a sort of tradition for us the last few years - to ...

[Actually happened 12/31, but a site bug keeps that date out of the stats.] Harleigh didn't get to to snowshoeing yesterday, so we did a romp up at WSUV this afternoon. I think I walked a bit over 4 miles, and I'm sure he did much closer to 8 or 10. What a perfect place to go, when the forecast is so grim in the mountains. Two highlights near the end of the ...

The forecast looked fantastic. But NOAA seemed to have completely missed the winds. Skies were gloriously blue, and the windchills were probably into the negative range. We did luck out as the things calmed down to a mere breeze while we neared our turnaround time. Anyway, the scenery was top-rate! And the friends a joy to share it with. <iframe width="540" ...

Last hike of the year for us, and it's been a fantastic one at that! Temperatures in the mid 30's and only random snow on the ground. Great views of the Klickitat River and only one biker seen all day. A great end of year hike!

December 28, 2015 Karl 11 miles 3,000 feet gained

Intensely monochromatic, but lovely, day on an old favorite! Only crossed paths with ten (or fewer) folks all day long, but two of them were old-time PH TFFs - so fun to see them up there! No ice anywhere, but snow from the trailhead on up. It didn't really start accumulating until fairly high, with the depth increasing from about a 1 inch at 1500' to a soli...

An excellent hike to Dry Creek Falls with some trail friends! A few downed trees, that were passable, on the way to Dry Creek Falls. We met Oregon Hikers Sean Thomas, Jojo and their dogs heading back to the TH and everyone was introduced! We also found the snow person they left on the concrete gate at Dry Creek Falls. The falls was particularly beautiful wit...

December 27, 2015 Mileage Mike 7.2 miles 1,000 feet gained

A very nice cloudy day with occasional late rain and very few people in the park! The trails are in good condition. Great day but no snow during the entire hike! Nice to see snow in the Portland/Vancouver area on the drive home though.

December 26, 2015 BeaverDawg 5 miles 1,000 feet gained

Headed up the Coldwater Ridge Trail #230A from the Hummocks TH to the logging equipment. Had the place to ourselves and saw a herd of elk right at the gate.Winds were light with high clouds, temps in the high 20's.

We wanted to do something new to us, so we decided on Clear Lake Butte. We were expecting snowmobile traffic, and there was a lot of it. This is a great little snowshoe, but the exhaust from snowmobiles was overwhelming at times. It is probably better to do this one during the week, or at least, not on a holiday weekend! (We were the only ones snowshoeing to...

December 26, 2015 Karl 6.5 miles 250 feet gained

Yep, again. Closest trail to home. Water levels down a bit. Mount Hood made an appearance. Lots of herons and egrets, but Harleigh wasn't interested in just observing, so it was hard to get many photos.

December 26, 2015 Roman 6.5 miles 2,250 feet gained

Knee-deep snow at the summit, decided to just return on short trail & not continue on a loop (also, due to icy east wind on/past summit). West side of the mountain was mostly shielded from the wind and everything above 1600' was a winter wonderland.

This wasn't our first hike on Dog Mountain on Christmas Day! After a week off the ankle, it was time to test it out with the help of a shoe adjustment. Not much snow until the lower viewpoint. Great views, but, clouds were covering all of the mountaintops, except Defiance. We entered the clouds shortly after the viewpoint and we were pleasantly surprised by ...
