Last day before falcon closure to do the whole loop. I went on a run/hike in the counterclockwise direction ( getting the road portion out of the way first) with my friend Meghann. We went through one of the two tunnels that goes under highway 14. They are wonderful, and mimic the masonry from Samuel Lancaster's days.

Lost Park for Sure. Old Underground Command Bunker Totally Empty, no one else around, on a Tuesday at 3pm. Such a different vibe than Tabor, just one Lava dome away. Anyway Started in the 40's off Belmont, summit of Tabor, down the dark-side of Tabor, crossed 205 on Market, south on 103rd on the way back approached Tabor from the division side, much steeper,...

This hike was awesome and gave a great view of the other side of Red Rock Canyon. The trip might be a little long for younger kids but it actually meets up at the end with part of the Kids Discovery Trail. There was a small waterfall and ice still on the plant life around it. It was a pretty cool contrast! (The elevation gain is ~670 according to the resourc...

Was trying to get to Upper Dungeness River TH when I got my Scion XB stuck in the snow. I dug myself out and figured that since I was already here, I may as well do some snowshoeing so I headed up what appeared to be a FS Road and followed it along for a couple of miles. It was tough going breaking new snow and it was misting and grey but it was also quiet a...

Went with Canterbury Tramping Club. Hiked through tussock and beech forests on a loop. On mountains located across the river from entrance from Arthur's Pass National Park. Nice blue skies, not too much wind despite forecast. Got to use my Oware tarp again. Black flies are a problem, but not too bad in the mountains. Slept with head net and tightly tucked in...

A group of us did Cape Horn today, the last weekend before the lower loop closure. The rain wasn't too bad until we hit Cape Horn Road. We didn't see another soul the whole hike. They sure did a nice job maintaining the trail this year and the tunnels are great!

January 28, 2012 Father Guido Sarducci 10 miles 3,000 feet gained

Trail is in very good condition. Trail is a bit icy up to the first ledge and then is snow/ice all the way to the East Peak... with deep snow the last mile and a half from the summit. Crowds were light and in fact this the first time I have ever seen the first ledge people free.

Went with friends Nick, [Chris](http://wenthiking.com/users/5-chris/hikes), and new friend Tommy up the switchbacks to Gumjuwac Saddle Friday for some snow camping. The weather was perfect—blue, crisp, and calm. The snow was unexpectedly crunchy underfoot for the first 1500 vertical feet, but gave way to powder once we reached the crest of the hill. The camp...

Took my mom on same loop I did yesterday. It was gorgeous weather today & almost felt like spring.

Did the loop counter-clockwise from the bus transit station off Salmon Falls Rd. No pass is needed. Lower part of the trail will be closed Feb 1 - Jul. 15.

Two different short hikes off Hillockburn Road. 1) Hillockburn Spring is a clear little springfed pond that sits in the middle of a reprod unit of 10 year old trees about a mile up gated "Resort Road". As with many roadsides in the Clackamas forest, at the gate, rednecks have turned the area into their personal shooting gallery/dumping ground. But lucklily t...

Hound dog liked it, as he was banned from Kings mt yesterday due to weather. The upper reaches of Belmont sidewalks 60th-75th could be considered off trail due to years of sidewalk debris accumulating. ha.

With the recent snow/ice/wind storm damage making the majority of trails in the area in-hike able I decided to venture out and hike some of the beaches of Puget Sound. Started the hike @ the War Monument in Tacoma, crossed the Narrows and hiked down the Narrows Trail to the foot of the Narrows Bridge. The Narrows Trail has been heavily damaged from the storm...

Slush Fest. so wet on the top ridge-line, I did not even open my bag for the camera. 60mph gusts between the picnic table and the summit. = Nervous factor +2 snow depth varies, about 12-16 inches at top. brought snowshoes did not use them. only saw two others, they turned back at the viewpoint below the last ridge-line props to Levon for joining up! Thnx Bud...

Neahkahnie Mountain with Roy & Thum from PortlandHikers! Quite the show from the wind and trees! I've never walked across a large root cluster when it was coming up out of the ground due to its connected tree whipping back and forth in the wind. And there was a tree with dead animal tails hanging from it!

January 21 to January 22, 2012 Water (Matt) 18 miles 3,250 feet gained 1 night

Uber athlete long distance trail acquaintance from AT07/the internets graciously offered to 'show us the mountains' around Reno after Bucket and I scored some cheap tickets ($70rt) from PDX-RNO. Fortunately we didn't need snowshoes the whole way, but it was definitely a strenuous hike at 9miles one way. Snow conditions were good though, powdery as opposed to...

January 21, 2012 RenegadePilgrim 3.5 miles 1,000 feet gained

We started the day with the intention of hiking Eagle Creek trail to Tunnel Falls. We arrived at the trail head around 8:00a and found about a foot of snow around the area. We were the only cars at the parking lot. Nothing too difficult to navigate and since I had just bought some Kahtoola micro spikes, I felt comfortable hiking the trail in them. My hiking ...

More takin' it easy, trying to get the knee back to normal. Since the creek levels were supposed to be super high, I decided to visit some of the local waterfalls. Elowah and Multnomah were roaring. I also thought to go down to Starvation to see if Warren Creek falls was doing anything. Just a little sprinkling, but Cabin Creek and Hole in the Wall falls wer...

January 20, 2012 Roman 4 miles 2,000 feet gained

I had a free afternoon, and started off Equestrian trailhead to look for a shortcut path between Hardy trail and lower Hamilton trail. Didn't quite expect everything to be snowed in, but decided to go with original plan. The shortcut should have began at the first major junction, but all I encountered was impenetrable brush... Took the right-hand trail for a...

January 20, 2012 Jen 5 miles 500 feet gained

OK now it's my turn to post a lame urban hike. It was sort of a run hike, just got new shoes, breaking them in. Despite the recent deluges, the trail is still in pretty good shape. I guess because we've had such a dry winter so far. A few of the little steep pitches are slick as snot, but the puddles of pudding have not formed yet. Explored some interesting ...

❄ Snowmageddon2012 day#2 Bummed out once the snow turned to rain, I headed for high ground after hearing skyline blvd had 6 inches. It was a darn slushy walk with the rain and the snow .... The rain turned to snow around the wildwood trail, so I stopped and made a mini snowman. ☃ About 5-6 inches of slushy snow up near the skyline entrance... Snowmageddon da...

Well, I was gonna go up to Council Crest and head North on the Wildwood... but my feet and legs were wet before I even turned off of Scholls Ferry Rd. to head up Patton (on foot). I turned around at Patton and headed home to get dry. This is only on here because the slush and snow/ice, as well as the pack, made it more than a normal surface road walk.
