September 18 to September 19, 2012 20 miles 6,000 feet gained 1 night

This was an awesome hike. I wanted to try and experience all of the north side of Hood. I started about 6 in the morning and hit McNeil point at about 9. From there I made my way down through the burn areas from the 2011 Dollar lake fire. There was still a lot of beautiful meadows tucked away in all the burned trees. Saw some cougar tracks and a lot of bear ...

September 14 to September 16, 2012 20 miles 5,500 feet gained 2 nights

This was an awesome 3 day backpacking adventure. I had never been in this area before. The flowers were still somewhat alive and the weather was perfect. The smoke from the wild fires to the south made some of the views a bit hazy. I was able to see all 3 of the major Washington cascade mountains. Probably the view of Rainer I can ever remember seeing.

When we hiked Yocum we saw the green meadows of Paradise Park and wanted to check it out but were unsure at the time if there was a trail going up there. I came across the trail while reading trip reports on portland hikers. While reading the reports I also came across a few talking about a crashed B26 from 1949. Being the a fan of historical sites I had to ...

This is one of the best caves I've been in so far. A bit too busy though. It was a nice trip on a hot day. We took the long route through the caves and it seemed like we were down there forever. I wasn't able to get a lot of pictures, my camera's flash wasn't good enough but it was still an amazing experience.

August 18, 2012 0.2 miles 250 feet gained

I don't know if it'd really be considered a hike but still awesome stroll up to the top to see the blast zone.

August 17, 2012 2 miles 500 feet gained

Nice stroll through lava canyon. Went with a group that had kids so didn't go too far into it. Nice views and the suspension bridge was awesome

August 10, 2012 14.2 miles 3,500 feet gained

This is by far the most amazing hike I've been on this year. The views of the mountain from Yocum Meadow was by far the best I've seen of the mountain so far. It's a bit long but I think everyone that is able bodied needs to see this.

August 4, 2012 7.3 miles 1,000 feet gained

We managed to pick one of the hotter days of the year but that made the cool area around the falls seem that much better. A lot of people on the trail as well.

July 28, 2012 8 miles 3,500 feet gained

Table round 2. This time the weather was beautiful and the views were just amazing. We did take a wrong trail starting out and ended up bushwacking the first mile in. We ran into a group 2 others that had made the same mistake.

June 30, 2012 4 miles 1,500 feet gained

This was cool. The rock wasn't as big as I had imagined but still awesome. We went up to the devils backbone and came back down.

June 9, 2012 7.5 miles 2,750 feet gained

Dog Mountain round 2. This time the flowers were out but the weather was horrible towards the summit. Horizontal rain and strong winds. We didnt stay there long.

June 2 to June 3, 2012 12 miles 1,000 feet gained 1 night

This was a nice backpacking trip. Nice views along the river. Great campsites.

May 26, 2012 11.5 miles 5,000 feet gained

This was a hard one. Not a whole lot to see on the way up. The lake towards the summit was beautiful though. There is a lot of Microwave and radio towers and the summit. The towers and high trees block most of the views. While we were up there a phone started ringing in one of the buildings it was a little weird.

April 29, 2012 6.1 miles 1,500 feet gained

The was a beautiful hike. But there is poison oak EVERYWHERE. A lot of good views of Hood.

April 7, 2012 7.5 miles 2,750 feet gained

Beautiful day for Dog Mountain. The sky was clear and we could see forever in all directions. Flowers weren't blooming yet and there was some snow but still a good day.

March 29, 2012 7.5 miles 2,000 feet gained

Nice hike, it was pouring this day though. I discovered my waterproof jacket was not PNW proof.

March 17, 2012 4 miles 250 feet gained

I was invited on another trip with my uncle and this one was cooler then Barlow pass. Awesome views of the mountain but there was tons of people.

March 10, 2012 3 miles 2,000 feet gained

Found this one in a guide book. Fun but difficult hike, I'd almost say parts of it could be considered a scramble. It was raining this day which made the trip more interesting.

February 26, 2012 4 miles 250 feet gained

My uncle invited me snow shoeing with his friends and it was awesome. Didn't get to see much as far as views but it was a great.

February 18, 2012 8 miles 3,500 feet gained

James had been telling me about this hike for quite some time so we finally set out to do it. We took Heartbreak ridge up, which was covered with snow. I had some light duty snow cleats that made it a lot easier but when we got to the top the wind had to have been blowing at least 35-45mph and there was about 18 inches of powder. We hit just about every form...

February 11, 2012 2 miles 1,000 feet gained

I had been wanting to go snow shoeing for a long time and finally got a pair of snow shoes so James and I went up up as far as we could go. Which ended up being to Silcox, the wind picked up and made it difficult to see and quite cold.

January 28, 2012 1.6 miles 750 feet gained

Another warm-up hike. It was a bit icy.

January 21, 2012 8.4 miles 500 feet gained

Just a casual hike through the park to warm up for the year
