February 18 to February 19, 2012 Conner Dowling 4 miles 1,000 feet gained 1 night

Car camped on the river and trekked around the surrounding canyons. Great weather. Lots of trains throughout the day and night.

Took the [Altai Hok skis](http://www.altaiskis.com/blog/products/the-hok/) and a [new backpack](http://zimmerbuilt.com) out for an easy ski in this weekend's "blizzard" on Mt. Hood. Turns out that the weather was a mixed bag of wet snow and cloud breaks, making for an extremely beautiful ski trip. Despite the huge mess of trailers and RVs and other signs the...

February 18 to February 19, 2012 tammy warber 4 miles 1,250 feet gained 1 night

This was an overnight snowshoeing trip. We started at Barlow Pass Snow Park and took the Pacific Crest Trail towards Twin Lakes. We camped at 4600'. The trail was not very busy with only the occasional skier or snowshoer. The temperature was in the mid 20's and probably dipped into the teens overnight. It was snowing the entire trip and we woke up to a few i...

I don't know how many miles we really hiked. We took a trail to some petroglyphs and from there hiked down through several arroyos. Ojito Wilderness, New Mexico

February 17 to February 19, 2012 RenegadePilgrim 12 miles 0 feet gained 2 nights

I originally set out to start at the Swiftwater Trailhead and see how far I could get over two nights/three days. I checked in a the BLM office in Roseburg to check on trail conditions and the super helpful staff there told me that there was a 90% chance of rain and the snow level was going to drop to 1000' over the weekend. While I was prepared for those ki...

February 13 to February 17, 2012 Nick of the woods 1 miles 0 feet gained 4 nights

I spent the week sleeping in various parks around Milwaukee and Brown Deer in order to save on gas money. Instead of coming home from my ceramics studio at 6am I would just go set up the hammock in a park and sleep for several hours before going back to work.

February 12, 2012 Roman 7 miles 2,750 feet gained

Went up Augspurger trail, down short trail. Augspurger trail has some blowdowns, one requiring to go off-trail in a pretty steep spot, but overall it's been hit much less than 2 other trails on Dog. Since I didn't hike alone today, got little time for trail RX, but got help removing a large pile of branches off trail at one spot.

February 12, 2012 Nat Turner 5.5 miles 1,250 feet gained

A lil too much snow, no micro's or SS. The hound Loved it. Turned back at about 3600' I was just being Lazy, got tired of slipping around.

February 12, 2012 Jen 9 miles 1,250 feet gained

The plan was to ride my bike up Palmer Mill Road, but there was just too much blowdown. I threw my bike in the bushes after hauling it over the sixth tree in the first half mile. Glad I thought to bring my boots along. Luckily, I found a new trail! It parallels Palmer Mill and cuts through a really nice section of forest and meets Mult Basin Road just west o...

February 11, 2012 WildBill9685 2 miles 1,000 feet gained

I had been wanting to go snow shoeing for a long time and finally got a pair of snow shoes so James and I went up up as far as we could go. Which ended up being to Silcox, the wind picked up and made it difficult to see and quite cold.

February 11, 2012 Ken 12 miles 2,000 feet gained

It was a decent day so headed to the Oyster Dome. Seems like everyone else in Western Washington had the same idea. Headed to the bat caves, but just as crowded. Had to wait once at the top so I could take a few photos. To avoid the crowds on the way back I took Max's shortcut, which is part of PNW Trail. Dibs and I were the only ones on the trail so we took...

Maybe I'm becoming a softie. Did Angel's Rest because only had 2 hours to hike, I didn't have the wherewithal to find something new, and frankly, it just sounded nice. Aside from the usual crowds coming down, not bad.

February 11, 2012 Krystle 6.5 miles 1,500 feet gained

Stuck a 10 lb plate in my pack for conditioning and saw how close to Devil's Rest I could get in 2 hours. The 3.4 miles down took 1h 20m. There was some sun, overall a nice hike.

February 11, 2012 Father Guido Sarducci 11 miles 3,000 feet gained

Started hike @ the Chirico TH and and proceed to hike to Poo Poo Point. Misty and foggy with limited visibility @ Poo Poo Point. Then took the Poo Poo Point Trail to One View Trail. Followed the One View Trail past the 15 mile gap to the TMT. Took the TMT to the Hidden Forrest Trail and then took Hidden Forrest Trail west to the Poo Top Trail. Took that trai...

Up from the 40's on Stark side, 25lb pack, Stairs three times, down past the crater and courts. wrd.

February 9, 2012 Roman 7.5 miles 2,250 feet gained

The trail is in excellent condition. Was windy but no rain - good day outside. Snow was only for the last 50 vertical feet to the summit.

February 7, 2012 jon 8 miles 2,750 feet gained

Tagged along with a friend who was doing a small hiking article on Indian Point for a newspaper. Hardpack snow started at 1800'.

February 7, 2012 Jen 2 miles 2,000 feet gained

Preparing for a St Helens hike/ski in a few months. Hiked up from Timberline on the east side of the Palmer lift and skied down. We intended to go higher up, but the weather was turning, the wind was picking up, conditions were icy and they just pulled an unfortunate climber's body off the mountain. Skis and boots are heavy! Not sure carrying them up is the ...

February 6, 2012 jon 3 miles 1,250 feet gained

An absolute mess on the longer section.

February 5, 2012 Ken 10.5 miles 3,250 feet gained

Super Bowl Sunday and I headed with Dibs to the Boulder River. A nice day and the trail was in pretty good shape. We traveled as far as we could go and got back to the car after dusk. Fortunately, Dibs does a good job of marking the trail, which is very easy to follow anyway, so he can find his way in the dark. Glad the Giants won, but gladder still for gett...

February 5, 2012 Roman 8 miles 3,250 feet gained

Went up and down Table Mtn. west ridge. The trail / forest road has only minor blowdown so it was not an issue. It was very windy on the open ridge, but much better at the summit.

February 5, 2012 Chris 5.5 miles 1,500 feet gained

Having just a few hours (sorry again Eric!), we decided to do a little exploring in the Archer Mountain complex. Did a little getting lost, found a lot of blowdown—especially starting at where the base of Archer converges (where I tagged the pin)—which slowed things way down. With 1000 ft of gain + a blowdown every 20 ft ahead of us, we decided to pack it in...

February 5, 2012 Kyle Meyer 10 miles 4,500 feet gained

Great day for a hike up Ruckel Ridge! The catwalk section gets your blood pumping as you have to down-climb little fiddly rock bits with 50 foot drops on either side of the ridge line. Went up Ruckel Ridge without really ever stopping, took a rest creekside, and slogged back down the Ruckel Creek trail.

February 4 to February 5, 2012 Water (Matt) 8 miles 2,500 feet gained 1 night

Left town around 9am. Started hiking at 11:30am Snowshoes not needed first mile maybe, but, eventually flotation is desired. Many dead trees had blown down during the middle stretch. They likely came down the day before as there was little snow melt around them and no old or new snow atop them, including bits of debris from the break. They all had fallen in ...

February 4, 2012 Father Guido Sarducci 10 miles 3,250 feet gained

A few blowdowns at the beginning of the trail but overall trail is in good condition. Trail is pretty much snow/ice from the start and and while I used the microspikes, snowshoes were not necessary. Very windy @ the 4500' summit.

February 3, 2012 Roman 6 miles 2,750 feet gained

After reading about all the trail damage, I decided to go on less-affected "difficult" trail up and down, then hike up east (scenic) trail from the lower junction to the first bad spot, and do some cutting with my handsaw. However, even the short trail had so much blowdown it required going off-trail in at least 2 spots (and dozens of less bad spots needing ...

February 3, 2012 Chris 7 miles 1,500 feet gained

I had just a few hours today, and I wanted to take a quick walk, so I picked June Lake. Marble Mountain is 1 hour 15 minutes from my house, just about the same as the Hood sno parks, but I always forget it's so close. As long as you can live with the snowmobile noise for the first 1/2 mile or so, the area is far less crowded. The snow was so packed in on the...

Had the afternoon off so took by 5 year old grandson on this hike. Hike is mostly on a boardwalk which meanders through the wetlands. Great educational hike for kids but beware as boardwalk can be quite slippery in places.

February 1, 2012 Nat Turner 5.5 miles 1,750 feet gained

Slow Day at the Tourist Stop. Not that I minded. Started at Wakeena, up on Vista, over to Larch Mt., where i went up as far as the damaged bridge. photos follow, whole loop is passable, no snow. I would even say the Mult. creek bridge on Larch mt. trail is good for one at a time (not forest service approved) Has anyone that reads these posts hiked the closed...
