Hiked up a pavered path above Dali, Yunnan, China. Early on had lots of Chinese tombs (it is China). Bypassed some guards to check out abandoned hermitage, I guess, on a cliffside. I spent a week in northern Wisconsin testing out the new DIY pulk and getting my hammock and gear ready for another winter camping season. All went well except for the 40 degree weather and lack of deep snow. I had to use spikes instead of snow stakes due to the lack of snow.

2012 goal is to hike Mt Defiance in the Columbia Gorge in late July. Nesmith Point is an awesome conditioning hike for that trial and we knew that we would likely not make it all the way to the top in the time frame we set for ourselves. We did about 6.5 of the 9 miles, and about 2200 feet of up, in 4.5 hours.

Nice warm, clear day for a hike, wanted to head to the Gorge but I knew weekend/holiday/nice weather was the trifecta for lame crowds. Managed to squeeze in a short hike before the sun set. YAY for a new year of hiking

A bit snowy the last couple of miles from the top but not to bad. MIcrospikes, while not absolutely neccessary, did make the climb and the desent quite a bit easier. Was very windy @ the summit. Haystack snowy/icy so did not attempt to summit. Crowds light.

A quick afternoon snowshoe up to the Five Mile Butte fire lookout. We parked the truck just up from Eight Mile Crossing and shoed the rest of the way in.

Almost there! Doing some hiking while in Virginia over the holidays. Looked at the GPS after I was done, and I have a half mile to go. Was going to do some AT hiking but I only had time to do a little hiking in this park south of DC, managed by NPS, next to Quantico. A busy day on the trails.

90% of my time on Sauvie island has been spent on sandy beaches on hot days. It was nice to get out and explore what else the island has to offer. Sadly, due to inviting an always tardy friend along there wasn't enough time to finish the hike and get the the lighthouse before dark. NEXT TIME Gorgeous day/Sunset~

I don't know why but this summit always evades me, for different reasons. This time it was ice. It started at about 5000' and by 5300' an ice sheet was so strong my poles couldn't punch through it. Snowshoes did a great job on traction, but once I got to the steep part decided to play it safe. The ice made for wonderful sculptures though.
