April 30 to May 1, 2019 Jen 5.5 miles 1,250 feet gained 1 night

Finally got to spend the night in a tent! Gorgeous day and night. Had fun scrambling in the hills. We found an old homestead and a waterfall.

April 27 to April 28, 2019 runandsew 4 miles 750 feet gained 1 night

9pm start because of work. We were lulled to sleep under the stars by an owl.

April 27, 2019 Jen 4.5 miles 500 feet gained

Leg stretcher, stress eraser.

The ONP entrance to Staircase remains closed due to construction so a lot of people were parking near the Copper Creek TH to enter the park via the Shady Lane Trail. As usual little traffic on the Copper Creek Trail which was snow free. Completed the upper loop counter clock wise where in typical PNW weather it was nice & sunny on the climb up and breezy, co...

April 25, 2019 Jen 9 miles 1,250 feet gained

This was a hike/ski trip. Snow about done in this area.

April 25, 2019 Woodswalker 13.3 miles 2,750 feet gained

Great day in the monument. We started at the south Coldwater Ridge trail. Mostly snow free except for a few patches. One of them was too slippery, with a very steep run out, to navigate without a brief detour up and around. At the trail junction that heads down to the lake we kept going on the Ridge trail, for almost a mile east to check out the snow situati...

Got to do one of my favorite types of adventure-the bike shuttle! Hid my bike at Bridge of the Gods and drove to Herman Creek TH, hiked Herman Creek to PCT, stopping at Dry Creek Falls. On the bike back through town, I stopped at the Easyclimb mountain bike park and looped around on the easy trails, fun!

This has to be one of the steepest trails in the ONF and is one of the few trails in the Olympics that I have never hiked before. The TH is approx. 1/4 of a mile from the Dosewallips washout parking area and is signed as Tunnel Creek TH #841. The climb to 5050 pass is 4500' in little more than 3 miles. Snow became fairly consistent at 4600' and I used snowsh...

April 20, 2019 Jen 7.5 miles 2,000 feet gained

Spent the day at Horsethief yesterday, so team was tired. We cut our plans in half, started at 0730,finished at 1030 and were back in PDX by noon!

April 18, 2019 Woodswalker 11 miles 3,000 feet gained

For all the many times I had been in the area, I had never returned from Devils Rest via Foxglove. The early bloom of Trilliums, oxalis and yellow violets is on to about 2200 feet and the Larkspur is almost ready lower down. The connector trail between Wahkeena and Multnomah is closed just beyond the junction with the Devils Rest Trail. Loved this first hot ...

April 14, 2019 Woodswalker 8.6 miles 500 feet gained

Had a great day seeing the bloom start on an easy level trail, along the old highway to Twin Tunnels.

April 10, 2019 Woodswalker 16.5 miles 3,250 feet gained

Great rainy day hike. Lots of streams and small to medium waterfalls. We saw no one else out there. The trail is open to non motorized mountain bikes. The bloom is just starting. Great day.

April 7, 2019 Father Guido Sarducci 5.51 miles 1,000 feet gained

After visiting our youngest son who lives up in Bellingham we did a quick hike up to Oyster Dome. Nice views with minimal effort.

April 6, 2019 Jen 9.5 miles 1,750 feet gained

Our goal was Aldrich Butte, but it was raining so hard, we got soaked and turned around at the Two Chiefs Trail.

April 1, 2019 Jen 4 miles 500 feet gained

Monday morning exercise, trilliums out!

March 31, 2019 Woodswalker 8 miles 1,000 feet gained

Great day, cruising around in a big loop in this area. Sunny skies, minimal snow just in patches, a few mountain bikes up at the north end of the loop. Some clearcuts and great views up to Adams and down to Hood.

March 30, 2019 Father Guido Sarducci 18.33 miles 2,250 feet gained

The hike to the old ONP Campground/Ranger Station gets longer and longer. The road up the Dosewallips is now blocked a little more than a mile from the old major washout because of a more recent road washout. This adds about 2 1/2 miles roundtrip to the hike. We went about a mile and half passed the Ranger Station. Fair bit of people were camping at Elkhorn ...

March 29, 2019 Jen 6 miles 1,750 feet gained

We hiked up and down the climbers trail a few times, but for me there was a lot of standing around occasionally directing the students.

March 28, 2019 Sarah Johnson 6.7 miles 750 feet gained

Entered a busy Joshua Tree entrance, our trailhead not far away. Parked next to 3 other cars, didn't see another soul the entire hike. Felt very lucky considering how many spring break folks were in the park.

March 26, 2019 Jen 5 miles 1,750 feet gained

We were staying in La Quinta for a few days, and the mountains just rose right out of the backyard! We did a sunset hike and the next morning I came back and scrambled up to the nearest high point at dawn. Loving all the flowers, butterflies, lizards and cool rocks.

Please excuse me as I add hikes from my spring break vacation. Decided on a weirdo tour of Southern California deserts for spring break. Sadly, a large part of Death Valley National Park was shut down due to flash flooding from rains the week prior. We made the best of what we could see. Our first night into town we camped in Stovepipe Wells, and as I had ma...

I wanted to see how the melt off was progressing, so I headed up to Herman Creek. The lot was full, but 90% of the folks were doing the Indian Point Loop. I just headed south, up the creek trail. I went about 6 miles in. The creek crossings were wet and a bit slippery but fine. Fairly continuous snow started at about the 5 mile mark, but was easy to navigate...

March 20, 2019 Woodswalker 12.8 miles 250 feet gained

Desperate for some non snowy trail we headed east and had a lovely day checking out the already faint traces of last summers burn. The boxcar is gone, but lot's of lovely rocks remain.

March 17, 2019 Father Guido Sarducci 10.3 miles 3,250 feet gained

Started hike from the Elbo Creek TH. Some snow on the trail higher up but no traction devices used. Once I hit the road put on the snow shoes and used them all the way to the 3700' summit. Did not see a single person the entire day on the trail.
