This was our first hike we took when we moved to Colorado with our good friend and our sister. We hiked to the summit of Deer Mountain and fed chipmunks at the top while overlooking Estes Park, CO.

The loop, plus scouting some campgrounds for a timberline trail lap later this summer. Having never seen Ramona Falls before, Fairy Falls comes to mind instantly. This one is bigger and more awesome and stuffs. Next time I'm going up that Yocum Ridge intersection. Tempting.

Up Wakeena. Got asked 6 times, "Where does this trail go?" Awesome. Great day, Dodged the showers, stunning storm-scapes across the river at Cape Falcon, and Archer Falls is Back with the recent rains. Props to Jan for the Join!

June 3, 2012 Luke Paloutzian 6 miles 1,250 feet gained

This was a moderately difficult hike, depending on how you handle elevation. The trail starts from the Wolverton recreational area parking lot at an elevation of 7200'. You gain about 1200' of elevation over the first three miles of the hike at which point you reach Panther Gap and have a fantastic view of the Great Western Divide, the Castle Rocks, and the ...

Picked up someones cancelation for Sunday when I realized that it would be a full moon. Normally this is booked solid even on weekdays. My office is only 11 miles away, so I double-checked that the campground had showers, and made sure I had no meetings at work before 10:00. Let me tell you, there is nothing quite like coming in to work on Monday after havin...

June 3, 2012 Mileage Mike 12.5 miles 3,750 feet gained

Actual mileage 12.5miles, elevation gain 3760ft (corrected with gpsfly) Lots of distance and elevation on a nice cool day! Not many people on trail for a Sunday. We saw no one from the King's Mt summit all the way back to the Elk Creek Campground! Entire trail was very clean and free of downed trees. Never went on backside of King's Mt. and found it a bit to...

June 3, 2012 Kam Pierce 7.5 miles 2,750 feet gained

Arrived at TH @6:30a - sixth car in the parking lot. By the time we returned @11:30a, no spaces were open and cars parked along Hwy 14. LOTS of wildflowers blooming.

June 3, 2012 Father Guido Sarducci 10.5 miles 2,750 feet gained

Hiked the Ranger Creek Trail to Little Ranger Peak. Supposed view of Mt. Rainier was obstructed by clouds. Continued on the Ranger Creek Trail to the Boy Scout shelter situated at around 5000'. From there one can take the Palisades Trail to Dalles Ridge which is supposed to have great views but due to deteriorating weather and the cloud cover being uncoopera...

Today was the day for my second annual hike up Dog Mountain. We got to the parking lot at around 8:30am and got a spot near the start of the second row. As we were getting our boots and packs on, we watched the steady stream of cars pulling into the parking lot. I was almost like parking at Disney Land, complete with the Forest Service setting up cones and d...

June 2 to June 3, 2012 Kyle Meyer 14 miles 4,000 feet gained 1 night

The lake was melted out this time! Didn't see any snow the entire boring hike. Had a wonderful fire and good company. Caught four eastern brook trout on a #16 tan caddis fly—try the northern shore near the underwater logs at sunset. We had the lake all to ourselves on a dry June Saturday. Maybe the big climb keeps people away!

June 2, 2012 Nat Turner 18 miles 3,750 feet gained

Horsetail, Ponytail, Triple, Creek Ford, Switchbacks And those Bell Creek Big Trees. 17.84 miles... Thats a big one for me. All the things they say about the Bell Creek Giants are true. Massive Hemlock, and Fir and Cedar. Trail kinda sucks, overgrown with devils club and vine maple. Pics to come, crossing the creek ford was fun, We had to think about it for ...

More people on this trail today that I have ever seen previously in total.

Actual mileage 8.4miles, elevation gain 2599ft (corrected with gpsfly) Great day with no other hikers on the trail. Entire trail snow free until road before Cache Meadows Trail. Cache Meadows trail completely flooded shortly after sign-in box.

Weekday Morning. Had the top to myself for at least 20 mins... Not Bad Angel's Rest. I'll Have to stop talking smak about you.

May 29 to June 1, 2012 Nick of the woods 3 miles 0 feet gained 3 nights

Just a good Ol' 4 day campout. Weather was fantastic at upper 30s at night to mid 60s by day. No blood sucking bugs of any kind and the fishing in Lake Rolling Stone was great. This was also the first official overnight hammock camping trip for my friend Jalon Hawk.

May 28, 2012 Randy Frost 8.5 miles 2,500 feet gained

Almost identical conditions as last year about this same time. This time we didn't venture out on the 'spine', just hung out on the overlook rock.

May 28, 2012 Stacey 3.5 miles 500 feet gained

Gordy, my 6.5 year old dog (lab / bassett mix), loves to hike. The only problem with that is that he was born with a genetic deformity in this front left leg that causes him to hyper-extend his wrist, which in turn is causing his wrist joint to break down as he gets older. He used to join me on my hikes when he was younger, but now, he can't manage more than...

May 27 to May 28, 2012 Ken 14.5 miles 3,000 feet gained 1 night

This was supposed to be an overnight hike to Timothy Meadows but a rather large tree blocked the trail about a half mile out and it was not something I was willing to take on alone so Dibs and I turned back. We found a nice quiet spot to set up camp above the roar of the creek. The hike itself was very pleasant - no bugs, no snakes, no people. The creek cros...

May 27, 2012 Stacey 4.5 miles 1,500 feet gained

Most of my normal hiking group couldn't hike this week due to other commitments over the holiday weekend. We are planning on hiking Dog Mountain next weekend, and the one person who was able to hike this week hasn't hiked anything with any significant elevation gain. With that in mind, we went to Angel's Rest. Enough elevation to give her some exposure in hi...

May 27, 2012 Kam Pierce 5 miles 1,500 feet gained

Stopped off to hike up Saddle Mtn on our way back from the coast. Even with clouds, we could see Astoria and the ocean. We even had the summit observatory to ourselves for nearly 15 minutes.

May 26, 2012 WildBill9685 11.5 miles 5,000 feet gained

This was a hard one. Not a whole lot to see on the way up. The lake towards the summit was beautiful though. There is a lot of Microwave and radio towers and the summit. The towers and high trees block most of the views. While we were up there a phone started ringing in one of the buildings it was a little weird.

May 26, 2012 Bosterson 9 miles 4,000 feet gained

Somehow got onto the bailout trail and missed the Catwalk! Argh!

May 26, 2012 Father Guido Sarducci 9.5 miles 3,500 feet gained

Trail is gnarly, rocky w/ portions more like a river bed due to the melting snow pack. The cut off to the balcony is @ approx 2500' and the TH is marked by an old oil drum. The hike out to the balcony is worth the side trip as it is only 1/4 mile off the trail and has some nice views. Very crowded though as that is the turn around point for the majority of t...
