Awesome views from Pulpit Rock and the Pinnacle. The beginning was almost entirely on an incline, while the end of the loop was a much easier descent. This hike was a few miles too many for the puppy though she handled crossing rocky terrain like a mountain goat.

Had a great day in the blast zone, again! Went up South Coldwater Ridge on trails #230A and #230, to meet the Boundary Trail at the saddle above Saint Helens Lake. That's always a special place. Then wandered past the Rock Arch and down towards Spirit Lake and Harry's Ridge. Closed the loop by traveling through the tourist-infested stretch to JRO, and then i...

I left the house just before 6am and made a quick stop at Denny's for a quality pre-hike meal. I met a buddy just after 7am in troutdale and we were Eagle Creek bound. We were hoping to beat the masses of people out there this morning and at least have a quiet hike to Tunnel Falls. Apparently, everyone else had the same idea. Which really was no surprise on ...

Left Portland 10pm Friday after work and drove out to Pamelia Lake. Left the car under headlamps around 1:30am and followed the trail to Pamelia Lake and up to the PCT to Milk Creek. Then off trail along the creek, taking the north fork to eventually reach treeline and traverse over on to the West Rib. Snow was not great and showed lots of recent avi debris....

June 21 to June 23, 2013 Roman 9.69 miles 2,250 feet gained 2 nights

Did some trail work over the weekend. Friday afternoon cleared 5-6 smaller logs near Ball Point (still many left, bigger ones will require crosscut saw); Saturday cleared the short spur trail to spring (~150 yards - took me 5+ hours!) and spent the rest of time in camp reading the book; on Sunday went over lower trail at Little Badger Creek and cleared most ...

June 21, 2013 Jen 9.5 miles 3,500 feet gained

Nice workout with a couple friends

June 17, 2013 Karl 19.5 miles 4,750 feet gained

Did a solo loop up Hunchback Mountain to Devil's Peak, then back down the Kinzel Lake and Salmon River trails. The rhododendrons were nearly at peak, the beargrass was busting out on the descent side, the trails were deserted! Went 16.5 miles without seeing another person on the trail. (Did see a few at both the lookout and the lake.) Highly recommended trip...

June 16, 2013 Stacey 14.5 miles 4,000 feet gained

8am start meant we had Multnomah Falls almost all to ourselves on the way up. Rhodies are in bloom the last couple miles before the summit.

June 15, 2013 Ken 11 miles 1,500 feet gained

A beautiful late spring day along a well-maintained trail full of wildflowers.

June 15, 2013 Roman 6.64 miles 2,500 feet gained

Made several discoveries today: 1. Aldrich Falls trail goes through Jurassic Park. 2. Hamilton Creek (rail?)road grades still make easy hiking route, and someone clears blowdown there. There's some poison oak but not bad. 3. There's a cavern about 200' above road grade, if you bushwhack up to Cedar Mtn saddle. It's about 8 yards wide, 5 yd deep, and 7 feet t...

The last and longest of the Eagle Creek to Tanner Butte 'schwack ridges. Up Eagle Creek to just past 4.5 Mile Bridge, forded the creek, the steeply up the ridge east of Opal Creek to gain the long ridge that terminates near Tanner Springs. Not as technical as 4.5 Mile Bridge Ridge from last year - mostly rhodies alternating with open ridge walking. Since I w...

Went with a small Mazama group, and got to the summit today. Started earlier, got up there very fast, ahead of the hordes. Snow much firmer this week for ascent, but too icy to glissade down from Hogsback, then turned to mashed potatoes below Palmer on the return. Very busy today. I ran into a friend on the summit! I forgot to put my camera battery in, so onl...

June 14 to June 15, 2013 Kyle Meyer 19 miles 4,000 feet gained 1 night

Our last trip before my wife Christy and I hike the John Muir Trail starting July 7th, this was intended to be a bit of a shakedown hike to ensure we're set up well for three weeks on the trail in California. We were the only ones at the trailhead Friday morning. It looks like we timed our trip to this wilderness perfectly—both rhododendrons and bear grass w...

New Summit - 6 of 20 for the Year 2013 Ruth Mountain has been on my to do list for a number of years. A few years ago Mayumi, Jason and I went to Hannegan Pass with a plan of climbing Ruth and traversing over to Icy Peak. This was not meant to be, we ended up spending 4th of July in a tent for over 48 hours while waiting for the rain to stop. Then on the mor...

June 14 to June 15, 2013 Chris 17.5 miles 3,750 feet gained 1 night

Wow—what a great area this is! I headed down to the Pamelia Lake area for a little break from studying yesterday. The plan was to head up to Hunts Cove and see how far around the "Hunts Cove Loop" I could get given the current snow levels. I left in the afternoon, (after paying what I think is a reasonable $6), and by 2p, there were only three cars in the Pa...

June 10, 2013 Courtney Basik 10.5 miles 1,000 feet gained

Hiking to Granite Falls from the Green Mountain trailhead was the longest day hike we have done so far - 10.3 miles round trip. There was plenty to see on the way there, as we passed Big Meadows we had views of snow capped peaks above a beautiful expansive meadow. We passed many small creek like falls and walked past a gushing stream which offered many place...

We couldn't believe the gate was closed, but heard it was opened tomorrow. We ended up hiking up the road anyway.

June 9, 2013 Derek F. 6 miles 2,250 feet gained

Incredibly wet. The weather forecast was for a partly sunny day, but the cloud cover obscured views until about 11am. I didn't hang out on either peak until that long, but by the time I got to the clearing below the split the clouds broke up enough that I was able to get an amazing view. I was the first one on the mountain, having started my hike at about 7a...

June 9, 2013 The Angry Hiker 11 miles 1,500 feet gained

Had to visit family this weekend but was able to squeeze in a quick hike up to a boring lake Sunday afternoon. Took a sort of roundabout way up to Wallace Lake and then looped back down to the obligatory falls.

I brought my son and a friend up to do this hike on a lovely day. We took the Old Baldy trail. Still some snow patches, but navigation is not a problem. On the way up, we met Dennis, creator of the NWhiker website, http://www.nwhiker.com/. He is adding this trip to his huge library of virtual hikes.
