First time up here. South route from Grouse Vista. hit Pyramid rock, then halfway to to the indian pits, then both summits, then Sturgeon Rock and back down a horrible road trail to hidden falls and Tarbell trail to finish the lap. An excellent jaunt.

Wonderful 23- or 24-mile loop around, including a 2.1 mile bushwhack up to the saddle of, Three Fingered Jack in Central Oregon. The loop starts and stops at Santiam Pass trailhead, and spends much of the day in the area burned by the 2003 B&B Complex Fires. The views are spectacular. Definitely worth doing - once. Not sure I'd do it again until the forest g...

Wow did not expect this hike to be that hard! We had to climb up a boulder field wish wouldn't have been as bad if we had not taken our two mini australian shepherds who just couldnt do the boulder field. My husband and I had to carry them up to the trail. The views were amazing, on such a clear day we could see Rainier, Adams, St Helens, and Hood. The Gorge...

July 20, 2013 Ken 13 miles 750 feet gained

A wonderful, very relaxing day hike through old growth forest in the North Cascades. We hiked to the camps at McAllister Creek. The trail is in excellent shape and makes an ideal introductory hike for newbies.

July 20, 2013 Roman 5 miles 1,250 feet gained

Did a loop on Silver Star with my parents yesterday, up Ed's Trail, down old road, skipped the last rocky bit to the summit. Tried Dole Valley approach this time (see the attached link) - very good gravel road, not a single pothole! Of course, the last rocky 2 mile road stretch is still there, but this alternative approach completely avoids the "pothole alle...

July 19 to July 20, 2013 isaac 1 miles 1,750 feet gained 1 night

Out and back with an overnight in Icewater Spring shelter. Lots of loud snorers... Hike and views were good. Slightly overcast on the second day with some afternoon showers.

July 19, 2013 Jen 5.5 miles 1,750 feet gained

Had plans to bring the kids over to Mississippi Head, but it was just a little too much for them. We had fun wandering around above Timberline, and glissading some of the remaining snowfields.

July 18 to July 19, 2013 Jack 7 miles 1,500 feet gained 1 night

Had to get out of town so did a one nighter with the dog to Wapiki lake. An easy drive from Hood River. Got to the trail head off 24 at about 9 and encountered a few groups of hikers headed out after doing the lakes loop. Beautiful weather, about ideal for hiking. Still a few patches of snow hanging on in the shaded areas. No bugs until I arrived at the lake...

July 15, 2013 Water (Matt) 16 miles 6,500 feet gained

A Classic scramble with goats, old growth, a pretty river, a lake, and views of the Cascade and Olympic range, and Puget Sound between.

July 15 to July 16, 2013 Chris 21 miles 4,250 feet gained 1 night

I didn't have time to hike this weekend, but had a few spare hours this morning and last night, so I went down to a place that was on my list for this year—Canyon Creek Meadows—to do some studying and hiking. I left at 2p on Monday and got to the Santiam Pass trailhead by 4:30. As mentioned elsewhere, after the burn, this area has been rather dusty, hot, and...

July 15, 2013 Scott 9.5 miles 3,500 feet gained

This was my first time up Table Mountain and what a treat it was! I started from the unofficial Aldrich Butte TH around 1pm. I took the Heartbreak Ridge trail up and explored around on top of Table Mountain for a bit and also took a little side trip for a ways on the North approach trail. It was much more primitive, but a lot of fun. I took the Westway Trail...

July 15, 2013 Jen 4 miles 750 feet gained

Canyoneering with kids, what a hoot! Pools, grottos, waterfalls and a beautiful forest.

July 15, 2013 Bosterson 16 miles 6,500 feet gained

Wake up: 3:30am Leave Portland: 4am+ On Lena Lake trail: 7:45am Burned up past Lena Lake into Valley of the Silent Men, very pretty - moss and water and very Gorge like. Hit climbers camp, briefly lost use trail, regained trail, lost it again in avi debris and downed trees. Finally got into the ascent couloir - snow is melting and seems unsafe, so we scrambl...

July 15, 2013 JM 11 miles 2,000 feet gained

Left from the South Climb Trailhead around 11:00 am. You climb for 1.3 miles through last years burned forest to the Round the Mountain trail, which heads east towards Bird Creek Meadows. The trail was in good condition with minimal snow patches. Flowers have started along much of the trail, though large patches of bare dirt are prevalent. Once you enter the...

July 14 to July 15, 2013 Elsie 24 miles 4,500 feet gained 1 night

Started from Cheat Creek TH - trail through the forest had quite a bit of deadfall and route is overgrown, but you can't lose it...unless your daydreaming. Cheat Meadow is in full bloom with wildflowers - quite lovely! Definitely ate up some time there. Continuing up to Triangulation Peak with views of Jefferson, Sisters, and Hood, and possibly even Thielson...

good views, except mount washington was clouded over.

July 13, 2013 isaac 13.5 miles 3,500 feet gained

Neat hike. A bit long for a day hike, but was still nice. Cloud coverage most of the time, but made for a good temp.

July 13 to July 14, 2013 B-Dog 16 miles 6,500 feet gained 1 night

New Summit - 8 of 20 for the Year 2013 Had an opportunity to sneak out again this weekend and take Mindy up to the hills. With so much work piling up at the office, I knew that I had to go in and work on Saturday. But could I still get out and go climbing ? Possibly if I car camped on Saturday night and got an early start on Sunday. Now where to go.....??? I...

July 13 to July 14, 2013 JM 15 miles 5,750 feet gained 1 night

Began the day setting up a car shuttle between Juniper Peak and Dark Meadow. Climbed up, up, up motorcycle ditch (trail) to the top of Juniper Peak with 360 views of Rainier, Adams, St. Helens, Hood, Goat Rocks, etc. along with the strangely shaped Sunrise Peak further South. Followed the ridge trail to Sunrise where some members scrambled to the top for awe...

July 13, 2013 Karl 15 miles 4,500 feet gained

Great trip up to McNeil Point, taking off from the Top Spur trailhead. When we left the TH, there were already about 30 cars parked there, but somehow (because we chose the Climber's Scramble route?), we were the first to the shelter and the gorgeous lunch spot at 7000' above. After lunch, we moseyed down towards the shelter, and then cut north for a loop th...

July 13, 2013 Dustin 12 miles 500 feet gained

Went in planning on camping but hit the wrong trail decided to book it out instead of no one knowing where I was.

July 13, 2013 Ken 8 miles 3,500 feet gained

This was a wonderful trip. Weather was great, skies clear, views endless. Flowers just coming into bloom. Snow in spots allow for some glissading. Marmots whistling loudly. What more could one ask for? (Okay, I admit, a burger at the summit would have been nice).

July 13, 2013 Roman 7.3 miles 500 feet gained

Hiked from north (upper) to south end of Observation Trail with the WTA crew, we did some brushing and tread work. The hard part was not work, but hiking without the poles in hands; got completely addicted to them.

July 12 to July 14, 2013 Jen 10 miles 0 feet gained 2 nights

Fun times camping on the beach. Gorgeous sunsets and amazing stars at night. Sand in every crevice of our bodies, Kids had a blast. Sand broke my camera, hope I can repair it and recover those photos!

July 12, 2013 Sarah Silverman 3 miles 250 feet gained

Departed the paved path for a more strenuous hike. Departed that trail at one point and found ourselves in a beautiful meadow. Got a chance to hang the hammock too near the trail-head at the end. Lots of cyclists, runners and dogs. Even little bits of history along the way.

July 7 to July 8, 2013 Jack 4.5 miles 750 feet gained 1 night

Beautiful weather for a hike w/ one of my kids. Had the lake to ourselves. The fish were jumping and we ended up with 3 nice brown trout. Not a heavily used destination, having said that I still carried out beer bottles and other human litter left behind by dumb inconsiderate people. Great time and a great destination close to home. We're lucky to have such ...

July 7, 2013 Mark Lusher 3 miles 500 feet gained

Nice 3 mile loop in the Eagle Wind trail. Great for dogs, mtn biking or hiking.

July 7, 2013 Bosterson 12 miles 6,750 feet gained

Drove out Saturday evening and camped at the trailhead. 4am start on the trail - no snow for the first couple of miles. Lots of meltout compared to when I was last here two years ago. There wasn't as much of a staircase up to Piker's Peak as the last time. Summit around 10:30 or so, followed by at least 4000 ft of glissading, basically summit to snow line. F...

July 7, 2013 Stacey 10 miles 2,500 feet gained

Decided to squeeze in one more Central CA hike before heading home to Oregon. This time, from the west side of Sequoia NP. We started at Wolverton, and then hike the Lakes Trail loop. Took the Hump trail on the way in, and the Watchtower trail on our return.

July 6, 2013 Allison 17 miles 5,250 feet gained

A mistake at the beginning of the hike put us on the wrong foot. We spent 3 hours bushwhacking up the Box Camp ridgeline before intersecting the PCT and then swinging around to the Marble Valley. Full report on the blog.

July 6, 2013 The Angry Hiker 20 miles 4,750 feet gained

I've done this one via the standard route a few times, so I decided to try a difference approach and went up Dirty Harry's Trail to the Bird Box Trail Connector, then to the Ira Spring Trail, up to Mason Lake, and from there to Defiance. It turned into the longest hike I've ever done, and I got to see a bear cub in the meadow.
