Mt. Rainier Summit
14.5 miles of hiking • 9000' elevation gain • 2 nights
Climbed via the DC route. Since I am 61 summited the old man way with 1 night at camp Muir then a short 2nd day setting up camp at Ingraham Flats. Due to the hot weather snow was slushy which was a pain. Firmed up about 1000’ from the summit. I guess the freezing level was a bit over 17,000’. On Wednesday left camp at 11 pm and reached the summit at 3:30. We were the first summit team Thursday morning which was kind cool. Stayed at the summit and watched the sunrise then headed down & back to the car around 3pm.

Mailbox Peak
5 miles of hiking • 4000' elevation gain •
Took the old trail up and down. Forgot how tough this one is.....accent is 4000' in 2.5 miles. Apparently the new trail is much more gradual but twice as long.
