This is quite a nice area to hike from ..... if you don't mind hearing gun shots and listening to OHV's all day! But seriously, the trail was in great condition, and was quite empty the entire day. The low lying areas were quite cold and everything in these areas were white frosted and the ground frozen solid. We only met one hiker, but saw 6+ mountain biker...

Larch Mt. from Multnomah Falls. At Multnomah Cutoff trail we went west to make a balloon loop. Went cross country northeast of Larch and ascended its rugged east ridge to Sherrard Point. Took standard route back down until Wahkeena junction where we dropped into Wahkeena Creek and completed the loop via an extremely fun detour at sunset!

Amazing traverse around another section of the 24 mile Wilson River Trail. Climb up one the Pinnacle if you dare (not me) and the near scramble up to King Mtn Jr at the end was a workout. Good for those intermediate hikers like us. Good gravel road access to OHV trailhead where the hike starts, and don't miss the waterfall .2 miles down the trail off to the ...

Birthday hike to the summit of Silver Star via the South Ridge (Indian Pits). Got a little turned around with all of the logging road options, but eventually found the old jeep track that ascends the ridge. Gained the ridgeline and waded through beargrass and talus to the top of the Indian Pits ridge before summiting Silver Star and having a little party. Gl...

Did the classic loop around Cape Horn before they close the lower section to preserve the sensibilities of some nesting falcons. Wanted to see how badly WTA had messed things up with re-routes and viewpoint closures. I guess it's not as bad as may have been feared, but it's still rather disconcerting at times. :-/

Multnomah Falls to Multnomah Creek Way, then jumped off trail at the pond due north of Sherrard Point. Climbed the NE ridge, which was sketchy and covered in a thin layer of snow, and possibly loose rocks were glued together with ice. Lovely weather up top. Then down the normal trail with a detour over to Wahkeena and then back up to the top of the falls via...

This trip was intended as an overnight backpack, but the cold temps (I was guessing it would get down to the mid-teens) had me change my mind once I got up there. Started up the trail around 1p and made it back to the car around 6p. The lake ice was making incredible sounds. Eventually I want to get up to little Bear Lake. No snow, but ice covering the trail...

Great day for my first hike up to Larch Mountain. It just isn't as satisfying to go there in a car! Awesome views, good trail conditions and good company made for an enjoyable day. Began at Multnomah Falls, and used every sliver of daylight to complete a loop around the crater and a return along Wahkeena Falls.

Slept on the summit of Chinidere. Snow drifts in the wind walls made for a tiny little place to pitch a tarp. It was snowing and dark when we got to the top, but clear for the morning. Definitely a leg burner.

This is a very obscure and unknown trail that I found one day several years ago when looking for the Skyway trail to Silver Star! The single parking spot is just down the road from the trail. We didn't see the sign posted next to the road, and found it thrown off to the side of the trail! The sign looked in excellent shape, but wasn't concreted. It didn't ta...

Short trip on this weird little park next to the freeway. Could have made it longer and more climbing if we explored the hillside by the camp sites. Nice up and down semi-technical trail along the river and a disk golf course with obvious signs of beaver population too... we will go explore further later.

Hike along the east side above and below the cliffs past many homeless camps and piles and piles of garbage. It's a real shame that it's like that, I wish parks would fund a cleanup or something.
