There was too much ice on the Eagle Creek Trail, so Trail #400 was chosen as an alternate. This route is not recommended.

How far on 400 did you go? I was at Eagle 48 hours before you.
No Ice at all, Save a few weird spots at low elevation near the trailhead.

We didn't have spikes or poles which probably would have let us continue. We turned back at the first cliff with the ropes since the entire path was reflecting smooth, thick ice. If it weren't for the vertical drop on the side, it would have felt more safe.

As to the 400, can you tell me where it continues after the historic highway? We took that route into Cascade Locks instead since we didn't see the 400 continue after the intersection.

I do not recommend this route because of the barbed wire "ambiance" and the constant din of highway on the 400.
