July 10, 2014 Team Reynolds Gross Creek 5 miles 250 feet gained

The rock formations were amazing and we saw MULTIPLE squadrons of Pelicans while on the beach flying north. It was our first Pelican encounter of many on this week of adventures.

July 9, 2014 Team Reynolds Siltcoos Lagoon 4.5 miles 250 feet gained

Great hike, saw harbor seals, huge crayfish, had to ford the Siltcoos on the beach and saw a family of river otters fishing for lunch. I recommend this one.

July 6, 2014 Pablo Mt Defiance 9.5 miles 4,250 feet gained

From Gorge Classic Climbs a hike up a ridge west of Defiance Trail originating out of Lindsey Creek. Tough going to start following old logging roads covered with blowdown from a storm a couple of years ago. Once on the ridge the going is pretty good. Hooked up with Defiance Trail at around the 3800' level and went by Warren Lake to return on Starvation Ridg...

July 6, 2014 Nat Turner Table Rock 8.8 miles 1,500 feet gained

13 Snow Capped Volcanoes. St. Helens, Hood, Adams, Rainier, Olallie Butte, Jefferson, 3FJ, Washington, Broken Top, 3 Sisters and the Husband. Even Cooler was seeing the Portland Skyline off the North End.

July 5, 2014 Elsie Boundary Campground 10 miles 1,000 feet gained

Mileage I probably shouldn't have done on my injured knee. But the freezing waters of Bear Creek served as a wonderful, natural ice pack. Very lovely hike to an old locked up guard station.

July 5, 2014 Karl Coldwater Peak 18 miles 3,750 feet gained

Another great day in the blast zone! Did the "classic" loop, going up South Coldwater Ridge past several logging relics destroyed in the 1980 eruption, ultimately winding up to Saint Helens Lake for the ultimate "lunch with a view!" After that, our descent slid progressively into the tourist (flipflops and spandex) zone as we meandered closer and closer to J...

July 5, 2014 Jen Deep Lake 5.5 miles 1,500 feet gained

Still some snow above 4800 feet, but Deep and Cultus Lake are melted out. The bugs are just about gone, might be bad at dusk, but not mid day. Jumped in for a swim, 4 teenagers from PDX, Chicago and NYC, plus one 50 year old mama in an alpine lake. Then we relaxed on the shore, reading, sketching and basking in the sun on a beeyooteeful day. This is what we ...

July 4 to July 6, 2014 Kyle Meyer White Quiver Falls 32 miles 2,000 feet gained 2 nights

Glacier was *amazing.* We spent two nights 13 miles up the Belly River along Glenn Lake. We saw many deer and signs of moose. The most surprising part of the trip was the lack of access to the water though—there was no "beach" to speak of anywhere on the two mile long lake.

July 4 to July 6, 2014 Roman Strawberry Lake 21.5 miles 4,500 feet gained 2 nights

Mix of bushwhacking, hiking on trails, and logging roads. This area has some true jewels, but also some overgrowing-clearcut-like terrain to hike through, to get to the best places. A lot of variety, some places completely destroyed by 1980 eruption, other places mostly intact, sometimes just yards apart. Was surprised how little used these trails are, even ...

July 4 to July 5, 2014 Jen The Wart 3 miles 250 feet gained 1 night

We camped overnight at the cave entrance and hiked one route in the evening and went back to do some side tubes the next day.

July 3 to July 6, 2014 Chris Muir Pass 63.5 miles 10,750 feet gained 3 nights

This was Sierra trip #2 for the summer: the somewhat well-known North Lake to South Lake loop. For those looking for a “starter” Sierra loop, this is it. About 60 miles, that can be done in as little or as much time as you want. (Another shorter option is to come in over Lamarack Col through Darwin Canyon, which still hits all the good stuff). This trip was ...

July 3 to July 4, 2014 Roman Yale Lake 1 miles 0 feet gained 1 night

Camping at awesome wild beach, not far from the road, but far from campgrounds. Probably the shortest overnight hike I've ever done.

July 3 to July 7, 2014 JM Lower Caribou Lake 27.5 miles 8,500 feet gained 4 nights

Fantastic holiday weekend trek to a new (for me) area. Spent parts of 4 days/nights roaming around a spectacular basin with amazingly beautiful peaks and lakes. The sun was intense and relentless, but made for good swimming in the clear, cold water. My shoulders and legs got burnt, but that's what 4th of July is for, right? Go 'Merica! 8,575' Caribou Mountai...

July 3, 2014 Jen Silver Star Summit 5 miles 1,500 feet gained

Family visiting from NYC, took them up Ed's Trail to enjoy the spectacle as an evening hike. Cloud came down and sat on top of us, but we had nice sunset. Oh that road is terrible!

July 3, 2014 Pablo Pansy Mountain 12 miles 4,000 feet gained

Hiked up Pansy Lake trail to the saddle then on up to top Pansy Mtn, across the connecting ridge to summit Motherload Mtn. Followed the ridge going east to visit a couple of the hidden lakes on the north side of the ridge. Down the hill to intersect Twin Lakes trail. Stopped off at the lookout and returned to the trail head via Dickey Lake trail. Mosquitoes ...

July 2 to July 6, 2014 Stacey Sierra National Forest 50.5 miles 10,500 feet gained 4 nights

Picked up permits in Prather, CA for the Maxson TH at Courtright Reservoir. Then set off to explore Red Mountain Basin, Goddard Canyon, Blackcap Basin, and Bench Valley. Day 1 - 10.7 miles, 2376'elevation gain Hiked 10.7 miles in from the TH and camped somewhere along the trail. Day 2 - 10.5 miles, 3022' elevation gain Made stops at Disappointment Lake and H...

July 2, 2014 Karl Hamilton Mountain 8.5 miles 2,250 feet gained

Just the standard loop, using Don's Cutoff rather than the more boring jeep trail all the way down. Extremely pleasant, after-work, evening jaunt with some of the family, allowing me to introduce all of them to one of my favorite Gorge destinations. Trail's in great shape, the streams are running very low, wildflowers seem to be a bit past peek, some mosquit...

July 1 to July 2, 2014 Jack Soda Peaks Lake 4.5 miles 1,250 feet gained 1 night

Great, quick overnight. No bugs, no people, beautiful weather, terrific scenery, good company, lake w/ fish, whats not to love? Not a long hike but parts are steep.

July 1, 2014 Woodswalker Mcneil Point 8.5 miles 2,000 feet gained

I've been seeing lots of reports on the scramble trail up to Mcneil Point, but I was curious how the regular trail was doing. I went to where the Mazama trail hits the Timberline trail and the went up that little canyon for awhile. The trail had been drifts alternating with trail but at that point it was solid snow. Great blooms a bit lower down and the bugs...

June 30, 2014 Kyle Meyer 21 miles 2,000 feet gained

We were headed into the Egypt Lake area, but there was a massive landslide that took out multiple bridges along Pharaoh creek and totally changed the valley for literally miles. We did a few crossings but the water was really high and we ultimately turned back. Way too sketchy. There *was* a new trail built diverting around the slide, but the rangers didn't ...

June 30 to July 2, 2014 Father Guido Sarducci Press Valley 16.2 miles 2,000 feet gained 2 nights

Spent a couple of nights in the ONP exploring some settlers homesteads on the Elwha River. Michaels Cabin & The Humes Ranch are the main 2 homesteads in the area.
