July 25, 2014 FluttershyIsMagic The Bumper 12.5 miles 2,500 feet gained

We hiked off trail up to The Bumper in the Mount Adams Wilderness and scrambled to the top. The Bumper is a prominent rocky knob on the west side of Mount Adams above the Pacific Crest Trail. At the top, it is 6,490 ft. high and offers superb views of Mount Adams craggy west face and its many hanging glaciers.

July 25 to July 27, 2014 JM Lilly Basin Horse 18.5 miles 5,500 feet gained 2 nights

2 night trip to Johnson Peak/Heart Lake in Goat Rocks Wilderness w/ Roman. Excellent weather, moderate bugs, nice flowers. The biggest bloom is still to come, but plenty to see. Views from Johnson Peak were unbelievable.

July 25, 2014 Karl Elk Cove 16.5 miles 5,250 feet gained

Parked at Elk Cove trailhead, and immediately bushwhacked uphill to the Pinnacle Ridge trailhead. Proceeded from there up through the 2011 Dollar Lake Burn to the Timberline Trail, snacking on some ripe huckleberries along the way. Wandered towards Wy'east Basin, before cutting up again towards Barrett Spur. Had to deal with some lingering snowfields along t...

July 25, 2014 Woodswalker Little Cheney Creek 3.2 miles 250 feet gained

Beautiful river and some amazing old growth trees.

July 24 to July 26, 2014 Jen Mount Whittier 17.5 miles 4,250 feet gained 2 nights

This trip tested my inner whatchamacallit for sure, pretty strenuous and I was alone. I started out from Norway Pass at mid-day, in foggy moisture expecting it to clear. It did not. It got worse, all my stuff got wet. I was the only idiot out there. Made it to a camp on the Boundary trail between Mt Marge and the Dome, and hunkered down for the night in my w...

July 22, 2014 Team Reynolds East Fork 4.5 miles 750 feet gained

Another daughter (and her friend) hike along, unexpected sun and more water then I was expecting in the creek.

July 21, 2014 Team Reynolds Pyramid Rock 7 miles 2,250 feet gained

Wildflowers and butterflies! Bugged out on the road to Bluff Mtn so we saved the day with a quick jaunt taking my better half to the summit of Silver Star for the first time. Spent an hour or more alone on the summit, only people we saw were three nice folks we passed going down as we headed up to the summit. There are more wildflowers out right now, and esp...

July 20, 2014 Roman Iron Mountain 6.5 miles 2,000 feet gained

It's got to be one of the best sub-alpine hikes I've ever done. (alpine hikes are in their own category of course) You visit 2 mountains on this loop - Iron Mt. and Cone Peak, see old growth forests, dry and wet meadows filled with flowers, interesting geology. If not the clouds, we'd see most of major Cascade volcanoes, but even the views we got were great ...

July 20, 2014 Jen Council Crest 4 miles 1,000 feet gained

Little morning jaunt

July 19, 2014 Karl Cooper Spur 16 miles 6,000 feet gained

Devised a fun "shuttle loop" from Cooper Spur Ski Area, up Polallie Ridge to Tilly Jane, up some more to Cooper Spur, back down along the Timberline Trail over to Gnarl Ridge and Lamberson Butte, and finally down to Hood River Meadows. Really nice way to avoid the in/out nature of Cooper Spur if you can drop one vehicle at HRM. The road to Cloud Cap is still...

July 18, 2014 acorn woodpecker West Zigzag 5 miles 1,250 feet gained

Took my visiting father and carried my son to the old lookout side atop West Zigzag Mt. Perfect weather day (breezy between 65-75). Love the views of the Salmon Huckleberry Wilderness from the summit. Caught a few good views of Hood along the Zigzag ridge. Saw the huge plum of smoke from the fire on the Warm Springs Reservation. Plenty of Tiger Lilies in blo...

July 17 to July 20, 2014 Kyle Meyer Wildcat 15 miles 500 feet gained 3 nights

The annual "Let's swim and drink and fish and swim" trip. So much swimming, so much fishing, so much good times. Siouxon's the best. It's getting very popular, though. There was an obscene amount of people on Saturday.

July 17, 2014 Woodswalker Timberline Lodge T2 2.5 miles 1,250 feet gained

Quick afternoon leg stretcher up to Silcox hut from Timberline parking lot. Still some snow up there in spots. Phlox blooming like crazy. Also the most large wildfires I've seen at one time. At least 3 near Jefferson and 4 or 5 to the east in the Warm Spring and Maupin areas.

July 16, 2014 Woodswalker Umbrella Falls 6 miles 1,000 feet gained

Shortish hike with great views to the east through the ski runs, nice babbling brooklets and good wildflower blooms. Took a quick walk over on the way back to Newton creek to see how the crossing to Elk Meadows was doing this year.

July 16, 2014 JM Horsetail Falls 4.5 miles 750 feet gained

Clamber over the logjam, Hike/wade up to the the falls. Lots of people, even on a weeknight in the evening. Surprised how popular this place is. There was a drunk guy passed out on the creekbank and Sheriff Hardcock was there to apprehend him. Both of those tools deserve each other. Greg almost got swept under the falls. If you are going to go into the pool ...

July 14 to July 16, 2014 Roman Hawkeye Point 17.5 miles 4,250 feet gained 2 nights

Time off away from heat wave. Did the classic GR loop clockwise, with ridge walk to Hawkeye Point. Snow is mostly gone off Goat Ridge (just one basin @ 6300' still has significant snow), but east half of the loop mostly snow covered above 6000 (steep hillsides are snow free, flat bottoms snow covered - easy combination), for about 3.5 miles. Trails will be m...

July 14, 2014 Pablo Council Crest 4 miles 1,000 feet gained

Exerciser from the work place -> down Conner Trail to Marquam Shelter then up to Council Crest and back.

July 14, 2014 Elsie Horsetail Falls 1 miles 0 feet gained

the classic hike/scramble/wade business of oneonta. very lovely, very cooling, very crowded. But why are there so many dogs in there?????

July 12, 2014 acorn woodpecker Bald Mountain 4 miles 1,250 feet gained

Took the whole family up to Bald Mt. HOT DAY! Beautiful views, of course. Wildflowers great. Even some wild blueberry ready to eat along McGee Creek trail. Such a nice quiet option and a little more of a work out to Bald Mt or McNeil Point.

July 12 to July 13, 2014 Jen Kincheloe Point 10 miles 1,000 feet gained 1 night

WE spent two days in Oceanside and were able to visit the Lost Boys beach at an early minus tide. We also visited Maxwell Mountain, Tunnel Beach, Whalen Island, Cape Lookout's South Beach, and Cape Kiwanda x2. Then we left the comfy beach vacation rental and backpacked up the Bayocean Spit and spent a just as comfortable night in the dunes. Brought two bikes...

July 12, 2014 Pablo Coopey Falls 4.5 miles 1,500 feet gained

Hiked up a ridge going south from the Angel's Rest trail head. Returned on Palmer Mill Rd. Hot.
