The day started off with a tee time @ 7:00 a.m. and I got a quick 9 in before heading off to North Bend to meet my buddy Tyson. We finished our round with sometime to spare, so we enjoyed some breakfast and a few screw drivers !!! Not a bad way to start my first day of spring touring. The snow was great and it was definitely T-Shirt & Shorts weather =). We g...

Trail is fairly crowded up to the falls but beyond that crowds are light. Snow begins approx 500' from the summit and while traction devices are not absolutely necessary it did make the final assent and subsequent descent much easier.

Since I had a super long work week coming up, I decided to do a second day of hiking. Headed up the Labyrinth trail up towards Atwood and wandered, exploring abandoned 4WD roads, looking at flowers and the visible clouds of tree pollen in the air. Apparently the Camas is full on lower down, but we wanted to avoid the crowds, so we stayed up high.Super beauti...

Beautiful sunny day at my favorite go to hike. Glacier lilies are a bit wilted, larkspur is awesome, chocolate lilies, blue eyed Mary, mimulus and plectritis are all going strong. Tish creek was easy to cross. A wonderful restorative day.

Took two of my dearest friends on a picnic outing to the Columbia Hills area. We strolled and scrambled around Horsethief Butte for a good long while. On the way out we ran into a group of students learning how to do cultural site assessment. Then we drove down to Crawford Oaks and actually used the picnic table, to have a wonderful lunch, with a tablecloth,...

We headed out to join the hordes of flower seekers. To our delight, it was surprisingly uncrowded. We modified the basic loop a bit and added some lower plateau wanderings. Balsam root is spectacular right now. Lupines are blooming but not at peak yet. Phlox were looking good and of course the car is still there is the densest flower meadow of all. Wonderful...

With the sudden onset of summer weather, we decided to go snowshoeing - go figure! It was an unbelievably beautiful day up in the blast zone. So much so, we both came home with rather nasty sunburns, despite being at least somewhat cautious to avoid them. The views and fresh mountain air more than made up for that, though. Started from the Hummocks trailhead...

Just a short flu recovery hike. I made a big loop with some side explorations around Tracy hill area. On the east side the grass widows are now few and far between. Some shooting stars, Lupines and Larkspurs getting ready to go. Wonderful day out there.

Not wanting to spend the night in snow, we headed out to Ancient Lakes for the first time. The hike in is incedibily easy. We set up camp away from everyone else, made our way up the waterfall, and then continued to scramble up some of the steep mesa walls. Beautiful views looking back down. Just make sure you pack in your water. The lakes are full of chemic...

I left work at 4:20 and raced home to get my touring gear. Made it to the parking lot of Summit East by 6:00 and started skinning. Got to the top of Mount Hyak just in time to catch the sunset. Quickly stripped my skins and got ready for the ski down. Missed the ripe corn by about 20 min. Things were cooling down fast and it was just enough time for an annoy...

Decided to wait out evening traffic in the Gorge, and visit some falls I never been to due to very short hike distance (Upper Latourell Falls, Shepperd's Dell, and Bridal Veil). All were very nice, and the drive home at 8pm was really quick, much better than if I headed west at 4:30.

This was the 3rd time I've explored this particular trail and now that we're drifting into spring, I can just envision that it's going to be spectacular over the coming weeks. Really nice hike for sun and views, though powerline road wasn't really scenic choice; next time I'll just hike Oak Ridge Trail out and back. Still 1+ feet of snow on forested part of Surveyors Ridge trail, with heavy blowdown for about half mile.

Our final hike in El Chalten. This viewpoint was one of the best to be had. And we wished we had done this a bit earlier in the trip as our feet were rather murdered at this point. We even saw a Guanaco on our way up.
