Not really sure finding backside trails without GPS and compass was a good idea (even though I've been there several times). Had to guess on several junctions, but we figured it out.

Three days camping at Walupt Lake with amazing day hikes. The wildflowers are still putting on a show in the wet patches, although they are bloomed out elsewhere. Fantastic views and only one small misty shower. Great day in a stunning area.

We just stopped off at Walupt Lake campground long enough to pick a site and park the car. Then up the trail we went to Sheep Lake. Amazingly quiet for a Friday and hot enough to take a quick dip in the lake. Some one had beat us to the huckleberries, but the views and lake beauty more than compensated.

On Sunday I took Russ up to the south rib scramble on Guye Peak. Russ earned a feather for completing his first major scramble of a peak. It was a gorgeous day and the temps were just right. When we reached the summit there was a nice breeze and it continued for most of our descent. All around a really great day to be out on a peak !!!

While the crowds assend Mt. Townsend this overlooked peak is easily accessed from the Tunnel Creek TH. Great views of Mt. Constance, Puget Sound & the mountains of The Brothers Wilderness. We saw only 3 people on the trail along with one bear. Great hike for a hot day.

We decided to take a family hike and beat the heat this weekend. Mayumi liked the Chinook pass area so much last weekend, that we decided to try another nearby lake. It was a gnarly weather day so I decided to go where the weather would add to the scenery. So I went to Zumwalt prairie and took a short stroll and then drove up the long gravel road to Buckhorn Lookout on the edge of Hell's Canyon. Fantastic views and tons of wildlife.
