With the family on a weekend in Hood River.

April 15 to April 16, 2017 runandsew 3.5 miles 750 feet gained 1 night

Ran into Splintercat near the trailhead at White River. Since we were so late getting started, we camped at the viewpoint near the Timberline Trail under a starry, clear night. The Easter Bunny brought candy.

April 15, 2017 Woodswalker 10 miles 1,750 feet gained

Lovely day!! Although I'm still not used to the parking lot at Herman Creek filling up. Made it to Mullinex Creek which looked to be a wet footed crossing(although an easy one). Camp Creek was getting a lot of peoples feet wet. The waterfalls were beautiful. Saw a few folks heading up to snow camp and lots of folks headed up to Indian Point and Nick Eaton. S...

April 14, 2017 Karl 5.5 miles 1,000 feet gained

After finishing the cherry orchard loop, we headed east and stopped first at Horsethief Lake to see the petroglpyhs. Oh my, what a treat that was! Then we just drove up to the ranch, and did a big loop through the lower bluffs. Not too many flowers out yet, though they're definitely getting underway. Really beat the rain to the east, that's for sure! <iframe...

April 14, 2017 Karl 8 miles 2,000 feet gained

First time here with enough time to actually climb to the top, so we made the most of it. Looped the butte closest to town first, following the old "convict road," which was constructed in 1910-11 under the direction of Sam Hill. Climbed the bluff east of the high school, and hooked back into the main trail to the orchard. Wonderfully green vistas greeted us...

April 9, 2017 Roman 5 miles 1,000 feet gained

Favorite hike for my parents, they want it to stay off the forums. Grass widows were almost out, but balsamroot started in earnest at about 800-1000', will be better in the coming weeks. Lupine is showing up too, no flowers yet.

April 9, 2017 Woodswalker 15 miles 1,750 feet gained

Lovely day out with Karl. Wy'East was the only creek crossing where I had to think about my options, but no real problem crossing.

April 9, 2017 Karl 15 miles 1,750 feet gained

First springtime trip up Eagle Creek was no disappointment! The day, and the trail, were dry. Actually went up beyond Sevenmile Falls and back without ever getting wet feet, despite only wearing trail runners. We did choose to ford Wy'east Creek on purpose, rather than by falling off one of the very slick logs partially across it. The waterfalls all were glo...

April 7, 2017 B-Dog 1 miles 1,000 feet gained

Left work around 4:00 on Friday and was geared up at the pass by 6:00. Took a quick tour up to the top of Da Fur @ Summit Central. Had some nice views from the top and then enjoyed some ripe corn all the way down. Got back to the car with just a few minutes of day light to spare. Stopped in North Bend on my way home to enjoy some adult beverages with my Bric...

April 3, 2017 Jen 6 miles 500 feet gained

Spring ski loop with my son. Near the end of the trip we were in t-shirts!

April 3, 2017 Woodswalker 8.2 miles 1,750 feet gained

Beautiful sunny day in the gorge. From Horse tail I went up past Triple falls to check out the washout and see how far I could go before I hit snow. The washout just before the 3rd bridge was fine. I ran out of time before any snow was apparent except small patches at 1600'. None visible as far as I could see above me. Trilliums started to bloom above and so...

April 1, 2017 B-Dog 2 miles 2,000 feet gained

Harvested some amazing spring corn on a nice tour with my buddy Jason. We got 3 runs in today. Two in hidden valley and one on the face. He carried his snowboard and wore slowshoes. This ended up being the perfect combo for the day. He was able to carve out his first turns in over 10 years !! He just recently bought a snowboard and has been wanting to get ou...

March 31 to April 1, 2017 Nathan Williams 11.5 miles 1,750 feet gained 1 night

Wet and luscious hike through the Tillamook Forest, lots of deadfall made some trails near impassable and plenty of early-season mud. Parked at Rogers Camp, hiked Nels Roger to Wilson River Wagon Rd Trail to Sidestep. Camped overnight at Stagecoach Horse Camp, Hiked back out Sidestep, up to University Falls, then back out on the Gravelle Brothers Trail along...

March 31, 2017 Roman 11.5 miles 2,250 feet gained

Lower trail along the lake was good, but about 300-500' up on far side of the loop there's still 2-4 feet of snow (mixed with slide alder laying at different angles). Worst 3 miles took about 4 hours of deep postholing. Returned to car shortly before midnight. It gets amazingly dark in those parts - if I just followed the trail with flashlight it would be ea...

March 31, 2017 Karl 17.5 miles 4,750 feet gained

Decided it was time to see how tackling Table from the Bonneville trailhead, now that the Hot Springs has been sold and is off-limits, changed this old favorite. This definitely adds to the challenge, no doubts about it! It's a good 6.5 miles and 1700' of EG just to the point where the PCT meets the old trail up, and you're still no where near half way up gi...

March 31, 2017 Woodswalker 7.2 miles 500 feet gained

Really truly a gazillion waterfalls! Beautiful day, the trail is fine flowers are starting and the water is amazing. The landslide at 3.1 miles looked pretty doable, but I turned around. Perfect!

March 27, 2017 Karl 10.5 miles 1,250 feet gained

Soaking wet day, which seems appropriate for waterfallin'.

March 26, 2017 Woodswalker 6.4 miles 1,000 feet gained

Dripping wet but beautiful day, The river wasn't silty at all. Still full of that beautiful celadon green color. There's a but more eg than maps show, perhaps an older trail version stayed level with the river. The trail right now is one big creek. A fair amount of down trees, all of them fine, but it definitely slowed my progress, as well as allowing more o...

March 25 to March 27, 2017 Jen 13 miles 1,250 feet gained 2 nights

We took a trip down Carcass Canyon in the low desert and camped near the confluence of Whychus and Deschutes. Hiked upstream on the Whychus and spent the second night at Alder Springs. Had it to ourselves because the main TH has not opened yet. The winter was very hard on the deer population and we encountered many dead animals, so many that some had not bee...

March 25, 2017 B-Dog 1.5 miles 1,250 feet gained

After a week of Rain and hearing that Summit West had closed down for the season.... I went to bed Friday night dreaming of fresh snow and my prayers were answered. When I checked the web cams it was snowing and forecasted to stay cool throughout the morning. I quickly gathered my gear and off I went. I took my dog Mindy with me and we had blast. 6" of fresh...

March 23, 2017 Woodswalker 7.6 miles 1,250 feet gained

Went east hoping for a bit more sun and to check the bloom. Grass widows are booming and the lomatiums are coming along and the poison oak has not leafed out yet. Wandered east along Atwood road until I hit Burns Farm and made it back to the car before the clouds rolled in.

March 19, 2017 Karl 2.5 miles 250 feet gained

Nice sunny stroll through the refuge, somewhat limited by the Columbia running at flood stage, followed up with a car loop through the South ("River S") Unit.

March 19 to March 20, 2017 runandsew 8 miles 3,000 feet gained 1 night

Beautiful Sunday, the last day of winter, turned into a windy affair during the night and pretty much drenched our tent with a good amount of snow. The Cooper Spur shelter on the Timberline Trail is filled with snow. You may be able to skinny through the top, but it would be creepy.

March 18, 2017 Jen 6.5 miles 1,250 feet gained

There's more to this mountain..........

March 17, 2017 Karl 24.5 miles 750 feet gained

Delightful ramble up, just a bit past the old abandoned ranch, and back down the Deschutes. Probably the only place in the entire PNW where it wasn't dumping buckets. The normally brown desert was resplendent in emerald green for Saint Paddy's Day, though. Saw lots of bird life, the flowers were just starting to pop, and it was just an awesome leg stretcher!...

March 16, 2017 Woodswalker 7.6 miles 1,750 feet gained

Wow a second day of sun in the last week. I spent the day wandering around the old service roads and meadows at the top of Tracy Hill. Lots of water everywhere. Ran into another hiker that I just know from online with his amazing dog Rigby. Had lunch at a secret meadow with a view of Mt Hood. The flowers are just starting. A fantastic day.

March 14, 2017 Jen 5.5 miles 1,000 feet gained

I stopped first to checkout Spearfish park and took a loop around the lake, then had a nice ramble up 8 mile Creek. I don't care if it's sideways raining, I'm hiking!

March 12, 2017 Rhonda 8 miles 1,250 feet gained

Short hike with friends. Much busier than the last time I did this hike.

March 12, 2017 Woodswalker 11.6 miles 250 feet gained

Flowers starting to bloom sporadically, river running strong and a sunny clearing in the afternoon. No ticks!! We strolled down to the boxcar and wandered down to the river a few times. Wonderful day.
