just went up for some afternoon sun on the snow. Nice vitamin D replenishment. lee slopes well loaded, windward sides hard packed, crusty, icy, just an inch or two of well compacted snow. Camera (or memory card) decided to hiccup mid-way through out trip, so, only have second half pics (going up later..)

30-something degree weather and high winds did not deter people from hiking in t-shirts and sweatpants.

Heading up to Sedum Point to break in my new boots. Wasn't expecting so much snow, but it was lovely.

First snowshoe of the season. Did a short goof around hike around Frog Lake, and a little bit of the PCT. Snow was great, 30" of fresh fluffy powder.

Oh my... Meet Magnus and Mayhem in Amboy right before 5:00 and Magnus shuttled us up to the Siouxon Creek TH in his AWD. Was snowing right down to 1200' but there was only a few inches of accumulation at the TH parking area. Headed on Siouxon Creek trail to Chinook Falls and forded again using the decent log that is there. Stayed out of snow shoes all the wa...

Took a (really quick) jaunt up road 777 from the Tooth Rock trailhead. Fighting sunset, I hiked about 4.5 miles in before turning around and jogging all the way back down to the road until the trail wouldn't let me anymore. On the way up, I ran into a young buck who wouldn't let me pass. He wanted to go down the road and I wanted up, so I eventually climbed ...

Had just a short while, so I thought I'd do something close. First time doing the loop. Go now—before the falcon closure at the end of December, though one must be careful on some of those cliffy sections with slick leaves and wet rocks. Really a nice hike, given how close it is to Portland.

This is another trail I have avoided because of the touron factor- but if you go on a Tuesday in November- you get a pretty quiet trip. Just saw one other hiker. Easy run, easy crossing of the Sandy River (seasonal bridge has been dismantled). A few slightly clouded views of Wyeast. Cool to see how the river changes course. Gorgeous moss covered understory w...

Being the only dry day this week, it was a great day to get out for a hike. This was my first time visiting the area and it was frickin amazing!! We spent the first 15 or so minutes of the day in the parking lot looking at mushrooms. It was like a fungi party. Amazing hike with some hot mulligatawny soup for lunch. I can't wait to come back here again and ag...

This was sorta a bust. The original plan was a loop starting up Nick Eaton Ridge, and then taking Casey Creek trail back to Herman Creek. Fairly simple. Unfortunately, there was enough snow on top of the ridge that I couldn't find the CC trail intersection. I hiked up and back a fair amount to see if there was a sign, flag, marker, anything to denote an inte...

15th hike with Captain Defiance! Wow! 11 Saturday's in a row too hiking with him. Amazing that we have not killed each other!! :)) Siouxon Creek area is first rate even when you have no view and are rained in! Hiked with 3 new fellers too - Brad, Magnus and Dave. Thought maybe we would see Chris since he suggested the hike and the open invite was just that, ...

Kind of just a road walk. Given what else is in the area, probably only worth visiting if you're looking for an easy trail run or are looking to make a bigger loop.

Finally found where this trail begins off N corner of table. NW ridge trail has great views, but really brushed and rugged for a mile... after which it turns into easy-to-walk (but viewless) forest road. Took a turn left @ powerline and then reconnected with PCT (more good views from talus fields). Nice day to be out.

I started where the PCT crosses 2070. This section of the PCT between CG2070 and the old FS 41 road is quite lovely and very mellow elevation gain- good section for running. I passed about 5 small waterfalls enroute. Turned west on FS 41 to find Mowich Butte- a former LO site. Views are mostly covered up by trees now, but you can crawl through them on the no...

Took Mt. Defiance trail up, then Starvation Ridge trail down. After reading so much about this hike, it turned much better than expected. Vine maples put on a show on a lower half of the trail. I liked Warren Lake, it's not jammed deep in dark gorge but still feels like mountain lake. There are a couple of nice campsites on the lake. It's right that you don'...

My original thought was to get up to Cooper Spur before the coming wet weather. Unfortunately, my brain wasn't in Winter Mode yet because I forgot to bring chains, which made my attempt at driving the Civic up an icy Cloud Cap Road comical if not idiotic. I turned back, went up to Timberline, then headed to TDH for a quick hike. Snow on the trail started aro...
