Dayhike along the Deschutes River near Warm Springs. One way w/ very long car shuttle. Lots of cows along the trail. Several shacks on the Warm Springs Reservation on the other side of the river. Beautiful weather, also spotted some bobcat or cougar tracks along the water near the end of the trail.

Road Trip! We traveled down to Arizona for a 3 night camping trip at the Grand Canyon National Park. Amazing trip. We spent 2 days hiking around the South Rim of the canyon seeing spectacular views and the powerful Colorado River.

I've always avoided this place because of all the RVs and tourists at the visitor center. It's closed for the winter, but you can park here and walk around the interpretive trail and hike up to the butte. I had it all to myself today, really enjoyed the walk over the lava bed and the visit to the breach where the lava blew out the side of the volcano. WOW it...

This ought to be one of the nicest places in the Gorge. I've seen Ar-Valley from the overlook above, but it doesn't even compare to being inside this vast moss-covered, rock-walled chasm, with waterfalls on all sides.

Was going to go up to Trapper Creek but the snow level was around 1000'. Decided do scrap the hike and just go up to Panther Creek Falls. Ran into snow about 1 mile from the falls, so hiked in about a mile.

In Sunriver for the weekend with my family. They indulged me with a little hike up this little butte which is a former LO tower location. We just parked along Century Drive and went cross country heading up the hill . Just as the manzanita was getting thick and annoying, we stumbled onto a trail. Easily avoidable patches of snow the whole way up with some pe...

March 2, 2013 Bosterson 10.5 miles 4,250 feet gained

Cut over off the PCT and attained Hearbreak Ridge at the saddle below the Rabbit Ears. Bushwhacked up over the Two Chiefs, then went up the old trail to the summit. Descended the east side of Table into Greenleaf Basin, then down to the Two Chiefs Trail after a very wet ford of lower Greenleaf Creek.

February 24 to February 25, 2013 RenegadePilgrim 3.5 miles 500 feet gained 1 night

After spending a night up here just before Christmas, I thought it would be fun to go back with some friends. We picked a Sunday night to avoid crowds and lots of snowmobilers since the trail we took was a snowmobile trail. It's about 1.7 miles along this beautiful groomed trail to the campground. I used my brand new snow pulk and my friends made makeshift p...

Was told to "go take a hike!", so I did. Wasn't sure where I'd end up, but I started at almost the closest trailhead (Multnomah Falls). Went east on 400, turned south and climbed the 1000'+ rockfall known as the Elevator Shaft, found a really cool overlook above the MF parking lot, went east across the Multnomah Basin, lunched at the Bickle Point (probably b...

Hiked Forest Road 777 from Eagle Creek to Mt Talapus viewpoint.

A sloggy march to the quarry below Termination Point in the Wind River range. Beautiful snow and solitude.

February 23 to February 24, 2013 Kyle Meyer 4 miles 750 feet gained 1 night

A few weeks back, I had borrowed a sleeping bag from a friend James so that a coworker could join me on a snowcamping trip. The night before this trip to the Twin Lakes, James asked me to bring his sleeping bag. Easy enough. But he failed to ask about it when he picked me up the next morning, and I failed to remember. We drove all the way out to the Frog Lak...

I was hoping for some more sunny weather so I made the trip out to Swale Canyon. Other past trip reports made this place look appealing, and indeed, it was a nice area to explore. I didn't see another soul—except a few birds, some ducks and two marmots. No flowering just yet—still another few weeks out I'd bet.

February 22 to February 24, 2013 B-Dog 7 miles 2,000 feet gained 2 nights

We hiked in a few miles to my friends cabin and spent 2 nights and 3 days snow shoeing around. We had a great time and were even able to sneak in a few hours of sledding. On Saturday we hiked up to Pitcher Peak under blue bird skies. While Western Washington was getting snow and rain... we were out cooking under the sun. The backside of the enchantments came...

I felt like I needed to hike so I made a quick late Monday afternoon trip to the back end of Archer Mountain complex from Dunn Creek Road. The dog in the picture lives next to the trailhead and followed me around everywhere.

February 18, 2013 Bosterson 10 miles 4,500 feet gained

Started at Wahclella. Followed powerline road to Wauna Viewpoint, then OT up the brushy ridge to Wauna Point. Missed Pablo's ridge and instead went down a severely steep and brushy ripple to its left, but thankfully this dumped us practically on top of the Tanner TH. Back down to the parking lot, across the bridge, and up the 400 to below Munra, then OT sout...

I had planned on hiking up Monadnock during my short weekend home, but the killer winds and below freezing temps were not ideal. On my last day in NH I decided to do a short hike out to Purgatory Falls to see what it looked like after getting so much snow. The entire trail is 3 miles end-to-end, with three main falls (upper, middle, and lower) and many other...

Solo. 2:13:00. I want out on that ridgeline you can see from the Wakeena trail right before the descent into Multnomah Creek drainage. Is it accessed from Elevator Shaft /Cougar Rock /Franklin Ridge? It's a forested baby Munra!

A nice way to kill an afternoon while visiting in-laws.

February 17, 2013 Roman 3.5 miles 1,000 feet gained

Hiked with my grandmother into Deschutes Canyon. Wanted to get close-up Arch view, but side trail stopped just short of it. Also checked another side trail to a small plateau mid-way in the canyon (looks like a good future camping place). Perfect day.

February 16, 2013 Jen 16 miles 3,750 feet gained

Spent three days of redrock fun in the park with my son, sister in law and her son. The two boys ages 10 and 12 had a blast. We went on 7 trips, including a guided slot canyoneering adventure. Loved the slickrock, planning our next trip back to the area. 1. Emerald Pools Loop : 3.5 miles, 350 ft. 2. Shelf Canyon-a short dry slot canyon- what a hoot! 1 mile 1...

It has long been thought that Medieval labyrinths were used as ritualistic pathways; a place to accomplish prayers and devotions. The Labyrinth area at Coyote Wall offers an oddly similar opportunity. Frankly, I've always put off going out to this location because it looked, well, boring. But now that I've visited, I can see the appeal. While somewhat occupi...

Another exploration of the area near Grays Creek, this time to the west under Indian Point. Three gullies - the first was the Shooting Gallery, which we turned back from due to rockfall. Second dead ended. Third was a long straight shot all the way up to the Gorton Creek trail, making this the directiest line yet. Off and on rain, tons of mist, exciting and ...

February 15 to February 19, 2013 JM 40 miles 8,500 feet gained 4 nights

Presidents Day Weekend trip to Death Valley. 4 of us left Weds afternoon and drove the 18 hours to Ballarat, CA. We hiked up Surprise Canyon intending to reach Panamint City, but didn't have the energy or time, so decided to set up cam about 5.5 miles in and hike up to Panamint City in the morning. Panamint City is a deserted ghost town/mining camp in a high...

February 15, 2013 Karl 10.5 miles 5,750 feet gained

What a day! One I'll never forget. First ascent of a glaciated volcano since 1985. And we probably picked the very best day of the year to do it on. It's almost impossible to conceive of better conditions. It was about 28°F at the Marble Mountain trailhead when we left there about 7:40am. The skies were crystal clear blue in every direction. As the day wore ...

Parked below the gate. up to rd 315, uphill at the Larch Jct., out to Sherrad Pt. Road back because it was getting late-ish, still posthole central on the road. Our Crap 93' Toyota Corolla could not make the snow gate due to high centering. 4wd can make the gate at this time. High. Pressure. Rules. Everything. Around. Me.
