Kamikaze Falls was recently renamed "Teneriffe Falls" so as to not offend any kamikazes, but the local still stubborn refer it by its less PC name. I've been up there once before but decided to enter via the Talus Poop Loop this time. I had the whole trail to myself most of the way and didn't see so much as a single kamikaze.

April 27 to April 28, 2013 Roman 7.5 miles 1,500 feet gained 1 night

Joined trail work party with the WTA on Sunday. Got there Saturday pm and camped above Catherine Creek (almost with a view of the arch, but had to move camp due to wind); did a lower loop for the first time - super easy but nice. Great area for camping BTW, there's something for waking to sun, warmth and open views. Also easy to pick a nice place out of the ...

April 26, 2013 The Angry Hiker 4 miles 1,750 feet gained

Often used as a "Training Climb" by little old ladies and the morbidly obese, Tiger Mountain's Poo Poo Point is a quick after-work urban hike to a paraglider launching pad.

April 26, 2013 Jen 9.5 miles 3,750 feet gained

Brought a friend along to show her this classic hike. Beautiful day- not much snow left on Benson Plateau.

April 25, 2013 Roman 4.6 miles 1,500 feet gained

0:54 up again. Larkspur is already starting along the lower trail (lots of it), next 2 weeks should be really nice. Usual great views of the river.

April 24, 2013 Chris 5 miles 1,250 feet gained

A quick late afternoon hike to get outside on a nice day.

April 24, 2013 B-Dog 7.5 miles 3,500 feet gained

This is going to be an ongoing entry that will capture my stats as I begin to train for this summer. It will continue to grow in mileage and elevation gain. It will also include times / dates and a few notes. The stats for this hike are as follows: 3.8 Miles Round Trip w/ 1,690' of Elevation Gain. This is the Chirico Trail to Poo Poo Point. ....................

April 24, 2013 Bosterson 6 miles 4,750 feet gained

Started 1:30am at Timberline. Continuous heavy winds. Got up to Hogsback, unsure how safe the summit would be with the wind. Cold. Partners opted to bail. Descended to Illumination Saddle, then walked straight down the Zigzag Glacier for a while and strolled back over to the Magic Mile to finish it out. Other climbers who'd gone up when we headed down appear...

April 23, 2013 Roman 4.6 miles 1,500 feet gained

Quick hike after work. Time up 0:54 but it could be faster - lots of hikers this time.

April 21, 2013 The Angry Hiker 8.5 miles 3,250 feet gained

Took advantage of the rain and snow to get a hike in before the swarms of poodle herders arrived..

April 21, 2013 Karl 13 miles 3,750 feet gained

Did a grand tour of the entire Coyote Wall area. Started out going up through "The Labyrinth," then cut over to Catherine Creek, up from there into the woods to the northwest, and across over to Coyote Wall which we followed back to the river as our grand finale.

April 20 to April 22, 2013 RenegadePilgrim 6.5 miles 0 feet gained 2 nights

This was a car camping trip, but nonetheless, it was a ton of fun and we went to all three units at the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument. Day 1: Drive Portland to Mitchell, then to Barnhouse Campground about 20 miles east of Mitchell. On the way to the campground, we saw two elk off in the forest. That was pretty cool! We spent the night at this awesom...

April 20, 2013 Karl 22 miles 2,000 feet gained

Great trip up EC, which was just raging with both the spring snowmelt and recent rains. And, the trail was about as deserted as it ever gets!

April 20, 2013 Chris 12.5 miles 1,250 feet gained

Now is the time to go up to the Lewis River. The river is flowing really nicely right now, and even on a Saturday, there were very few people there—I don't think people realize it's melted out. I hit a few spots I haven't done before—the Big Creek Falls trail, the trails between the main falls, and a smidge of Quartz Creek. The overlook at Big Creek Falls wa...

April 19 to April 21, 2013 Tommy B 8 miles 0 feet gained 2 nights

Two Nights, Camped at Webber Creek, just outside of Camp Geronimo. Hiked 6 miles Saturday and 2 miles Sunday

April 16, 2013 Jen 8 miles 2,250 feet gained

What a florgasm today in the Columbia Hills SP. I started on highway 14, where they are building a new trailhead, and hiked up to the parasailing butte on the ridge east of Stacker Butte. Met a fellow from Backcountry Horsemen who has been working on getting this trail system approved for many years. He says there will be 8 miles of trail in the area. I saw ...

April 15, 2013 Jen 3 miles 1,000 feet gained

3 miles in 3 hours, looking for an old cabin. Lots of elk trails petering in and out, but the middle hour was all bushwack. So close to the human world, but it feels so remote in there- and not a single shred of stupid flagging!!!

April 13 to April 14, 2013 Allison 30 miles 500 feet gained 1 night

A good early season leg stretcher with good friends, good bourbon, and clear skies. Full trip report on the blog.

April 13, 2013 Ken 9.5 miles 0 feet gained

Had planned a trip to Sobieski Mountain but heavy spring snows and increased avalanche danger led to a change in plans. Had to hike up the road to Jade Lake Trail Head due to downed tree. Managed to hike about 3 1/2 miles in before time, the continued snowfall, and blowdowns got the best of us. Still, a nice day.

April 13, 2013 Chris 3.5 miles 1,250 feet gained

A very brief trip up Ruckel Creek to do some thinking and look for some waterfalls.

April 13, 2013 Karl 19 miles 2,000 feet gained

Did a car shuttle to the small town of Klickitat, then hiked nearly 14 miles the converted rail-to-trail down along the federally-designated "Wild & Scenic" river to its confluence with the Columbia in Lyle. After retrieving the jeep, there was still lots of daylight, so we headed over to Dalles Mtn and climbed Stacker Butte. Great day in the desert!

April 13, 2013 RenegadePilgrim 8.5 miles 1,750 feet gained

One of my friends is recovering from a knee injury and wanted to still get an easy hike in, so seven humans and three dogs set out today for a wee little adventure in the Gorge. We wandered up the Multnomah Falls trail and continued along, finding the Christmas Ornament trail unexpectedly and hanging out for lunch under cover of one of the porches at Nesika ...

April 13, 2013 Roman 7 miles 1,500 feet gained

The weather alternated between sunshine and blizzard all day. Saw only 2 snowshoers and (maybe their) tent at Upper Twin lake. At the end decided to go over Bird Butte rather than around it on trail - while this little summit is not known for big views, it's pretty nice place, with old, open forest and partial views to the lake.

April 12 to April 14, 2013 JM 12 miles 3,500 feet gained 2 nights

Early Spring snowshoe up to South Cinder peak. Arrived at the Marion Lake TH late at night as it was steadily raining. Camped at the trailhead. Rats scurried outside our tent all night. Set off on a drizzly morning up the trail, headed past snow covered Lake Ann, and giant icy Marion Lake. Ran into a couple of optimistic fisherman, who turned back when they ...
