Amazing trip! It was ridiculously hot yesterday, which makes me very happy that I'm not doing this in the summer! Snow was very slushy on the way down and did not make for the best glissade conditions. Breaking through the cloud ceiling was spectacular. As the clouds moved, I managed to glimpse a few other mountains: Hood, Adams, and Rainier. Now I can't wai...

I love the rock formations here, and the river is very beautiful as it winds through, sometimes violently. The shale is very different from the gorge. Gorgeous, easy hike.

Packed on 40lbs and took a short hike!

The weather forecast from NOAA advised an 80% chance of rain. Knowing this, we decided to try this hike anyway, expecting a wall of fog and no views. What can I say? We love fog. We were in for a surprise, however, as one of the most magical days in existence unfolded before us. We started in mid-morning, arriving at the trail head a little later than antici...

Hiked past Tunnel, but not too far. It was a gorgeous day! Very enchanting to watch the clouds wisp through the conifers that lined the ridges. The falls were good volume and there weren't too many people. I fair amount, but not bad for Eagle Creek on a weekend! The wildflowers are in bloom and there are many to see!

I couldn't believe how many miles this actually was. It ended up being a very long day! There was not one soul on Nick Eaton Ridge, but then ran into a few people on a side trip to Wahkeena Spring, which is really bubbling right now! It rained most of the time, but the sky cleared by the end of the day. absolutely gorgeous in the gorge! :)

Hiked to the silcox hut in a whiteout, in a rope team for practice. All of my gear became encrusted in ice, I had ice crystals formed on my cheek, and sizeable icicles hanging from my hat. It. Was. Awesome.

April 3, 2011 10.5 miles 3,750 feet gained

Up to the top of Nesmith Point. The views weren't much, but it was a beautiful day. The snow was pretty deep at the top, and I post holed quite a few times until I got into the rhythm of walking flat footed and taking shorter steps. Difficult at time, on such steep terrain! There were lots of trillium in bloom near the bottom, and you could see beargrass sta...

March 26, 2011 7.5 miles 2,750 feet gained

Amazingly, there was NO WIND at the lookout or even on the way to the summit. Snow was a little higher up than last time. The weather wasn't the greatest, and didn't offer any glimpses of the views along the way. We went up the Old Trail, and down the Scenic. I saw one or two beginnings of some purple wildflowers. Spring is coming! At the top, it started sno...

Went with James. Up the "More Difficult" Old Trail and down the Scenic trail. Forget the Augsberger! The wind was insane, gusting upwards of 40mph near the top. It nearly knocked me over a few times, and managed to take my hat. We went off trail for a short while to look for it, going along a tree line. Spotted lots of deer poop, but no hat. It was amazing b...

Hiked to 4.5 mile bridge and back. Hit with a block of ice.
