Timberwolf went hiking May 22, 2011 12 miles 5,500 feet gained
Amazing trip! It was ridiculously hot yesterday, which makes me very happy that I'm not doing this in the summer! Snow was very slushy on the way down and did not make for the best glissade conditions. Breaking through the cloud ceiling was spectacular. As the clouds moved, I managed to glimpse a few other mountains: Hood, Adams, and Rainier. Now I can't wait for my new pack to arrive in the mail, as my current one is clearly inadequate for the amount of weight I was carrying (35lbs+). I have some chafed/blistery spots on my hip area and a spot on my back from the pack. I also noticed that the seams on it were very stressed. It's a well made Osprey, just not suitable for so much weight!
I also got severely sunburned, despite limiting skin exposure as much as possible and applying SPF 50 sunscreen four times during the day. I should have done it even MORE frequently!
The inside of the crater and the edges were amazing. I almost want to go back in the summer to see what it's like without all the snow.
