Short little hike on a hot day to a nice view of Weaver's Needle

February 17, 2014 Karl Ladee 801 9 miles 1,500 feet gained

It was storming in the city until about noon, when the sun magically broke through. In a flurry of radar checks, we decided to hightail it down to Estacada, to explore the Clackamas River Trail a bit. Ended up doing an in/out from Fish Creek Campground to Pup Creek Falls, and totally enjoyed it. There were a few *extremely hazardous* new landslides along the...

February 16, 2014 Chris Swampy Loop 4.5 miles 500 feet gained

A quick snowshoe loop in the Bend area. My first choice had it's parking lot to the point where there was literally nowhere to park. So this nice little loop was a great plan B.

February 16, 2014 JM Frog Lake Campground 5.5 miles 750 feet gained

About 1 inch of powder on top of 8-10 inches of hardpack. Pretty easy to just hike on top of the snow on trail w/o snowshoes. Did some offtrail near the lakes which required the snowshoes. Nice day, pleasant hike.

February 16, 2014 ADB Gold Gulch 4 miles 500 feet gained

Sunny weather.

February 15, 2014 RenegadePilgrim Gillette Lake 8 miles 750 feet gained

Short report...we went up past Gillette Lake on the PCT, probably about a mile or so. It was raining pretty good when we started but stopped and stayed pretty decent the rest of the hike. We had an early lunch at Gillette Lake and got back into town at a decent hour. It was my first hike of the new year and made me realize the lack of snow and activity has a...

February 15, 2014 Karl Ryan Creek Reservoir 16.5 miles 3,000 feet gained

Surely a new "personal best" for wetness! Nearly 17 miles in relentless - at times driving - rain, along the western end of the Wilson River Trail. We started at Keenig Campground (MP18) and north, then east, for almost 8.5 miles to the Wilson Falls. Had a little snack, and hiked back. The Wilson River itself was fully raging, and there were uncounted little...

February 13, 2014 ADB Foots Creek 4 miles 500 feet gained

Rainy and wet.

February 9, 2014 Chris Grizzly Peak 7.5 miles 1,250 feet gained

A popular running loop for Ashland-area trail runners. Great views of the valley.

February 9, 2014 Karl Cougar Canyon 8.5 miles 500 feet gained

Okay, this time it was with gaiters and microspikes, due to the freezing rain on top of 12" of snow! Most of the open water was frozen, which really seemed to irritate the wading birds. Not sure where all the migratory waterfowl went; only a few were left. Ski and snowshoe tracks marked the trail today. Really excellent prescription for cabin fever!

February 8, 2014 B-Dog 19 miles 8,500 feet gained

This is going to be an ongoing entry that will capture my stats as I begin to train for this summer. It will continue to grow in mileage and elevation gain. It will also include times / dates and a few notes. The stats for this hike are as follows: 3.8 Miles Round Trip w/ 1,690' of Elevation Gain. This is the Chirico Trail to Poo Poo Point. ....................

February 8, 2014 Allison Mount Tabor 7 miles 750 feet gained

I walk this route at least once a week, but don't add the mileage here because it's a "city hike" and not a true hike. But I was able to ski the whole route thanks to "Winter Blast 2014" so I thought it qualifies because of its unusual condition. The trees on Tabor were flocked with new snow and the east winds were ripping over the summit, pummeling us with ...

February 7, 2014 JM Switchback Falls 3 miles 750 feet gained

Took an old buddy out for his first snowshoe. So much powder I had to use the tails for my snowshoes! Views of the mountain early, then it closed in and began snowing pretty good. Only saw one other person on the trail, we were the only car when we arrived.

February 7, 2014 Jen City of Portland Reservoir Number 6 12 miles 1,000 feet gained

Three days, four ski trips starting at my front door. Laurelhurst, Mt Tabor and many laps on the Hosford Hill.

February 7, 2014 Pablo Broughton Bluff 3 miles 500 feet gained

Tried for the scramble up Broughton Bluffs but chickened out 'cause of snow then went up the trail to the east for a bit.

February 6, 2014 ADB Foots Creek 3 miles 250 feet gained

Cold and rainy.

February 5, 2014 Karl Cougar Canyon 7.5 miles 500 feet gained

An escape to the "wilds" of suburbia, while down with the flu. Lots of wildlife, good exercise compared to napping and looking at screens. Took a side trip up Cougar Creek, too, this time.

February 5, 2014 Pablo Council Crest 3.3 miles 750 feet gained

On the south side to pick up Marquam Trail down to the intersection with Flicker Trail, connect to Warbler Trail to Fairmont St. then down to the use trail connecting Towhee Trail.Up Towhee on the old road and across the street to Upper Marqum Trail. Down towards the shelter to catch the Conner Trail and back. Very frigid, no mud, all dried out and frozen. 1...

February 2, 2014 Karl Cougar Canyon 7 miles 250 feet gained

An escape to the "wilds" of suburbia, while down with the flu. Lots of wildlife, good exercise compared to napping and looking at screens.

February 2, 2014 Allison Devils Half Acre 6.5 miles 1,500 feet gained

A socked in Super Bowl snowshoe Sunday on Mt. Hood, still better than sitting around and eating fake cheese all afternoon. Started at the Barlow Pass Sno-Park and headed south on the PCT. Cut up at the high point to Tri-Country Ridge (Ghost Ridge) for some stunning non-views of Mt. Hood and Mt. Jefferson. Continued south along the ridgeline to (literally) th...

February 2, 2014 Team Reynolds 2 miles 250 feet gained

Exploration into a hike we want to complete in summer... not enough time today. Nice climb along a scenic creek through replant and older second growth forest.

February 2, 2014 Team Reynolds Coffenbury Lake 3.5 miles 250 feet gained

This is a hike that can be expanded in all directions or you can just do the 2 mile circle of the lake. It is gorgeous at sunset and the lake does a wonderful job of reflecting everything around it. We connected over to Burma Rd tolink back but you could really spend a day on these trails.

February 1, 2014 Chris Rogue Gorge 7 miles 500 feet gained

This was just a slow meander along the Union Creek area of the river. This part reminds me a lot of the Metolius—slow running and lots of pine.

February 1, 2014 Allison Little Beacon Rock 11 miles 3,500 feet gained

My new favorite route through Beacon Rock State Park. Started at the Hamilton TH, cut through the campground to Little Beacon Rock, and then XC at the powerlines to the cabin and up through wet Oregon Grape to meet the road near its intersection with the Hardy Ridge trail. Up and over Hardy Ridge (6" of snow and settled thickly in a cloud - snow started arou...

February 1 to February 2, 2014 JM Barlow Ridge 9.5 miles 1,250 feet gained 1 night

Overnight snowshoe to Cascade Huts near Barlow Butte. Perfect conditions, fresh snow, wonderful views.

February 1, 2014 Team Reynolds Smith Point 7 miles 0 feet gained

Following the route of the Astoria and Columbia River Railway this is another history lesson for your feet. Where did the Indian revolution begin and in what unlikely building? What is the largest truss bridge in the world? What is the oldest US settlement west of the Rockies? ...add many stops for good local food and brews and yo have a perfect city-hike.

February 1, 2014 Jen Trillium Lake Campground 8 miles 750 feet gained

Out for the last tour with my Nordic ski class. Once we turned off on the Mud Creek Loop, we were making fresh tracks and saw no-one for hours. Blue skies, new snow, awesome!

February 1, 2014 ADB Bolt Mountain 7 miles 1,500 feet gained

Sunny day, beautiful view.
