October 18, 2014 acorn woodpecker Council Crest 5 miles 1,000 feet gained

Started on the 4T trailhead along Terwilliger, then took the Flicker Trail to the Towhee Trail where I intersected Marquam Hill Rd. Dropped into the canyon along the South Marquam Trail where I saw an Oregon Slender Salamander! Then I joined the main trail up to Council Crest and savored the great view on top. Some high clouds in Southwest Washington blockin...

October 18, 2014 Karl 1.5 miles 500 feet gained

Just a fun little "rehab" scramble to a viewpoint on "Mount Rose" (which I just can't help but call Rose Hill, I'm sorry). Offered some great views of the Grand Portage harbor, and a reconstructed fort on the site once used by the North West Company as the primary export point for their fur operations. The area is now within the Grand Portage Reservation of ...

October 17, 2014 Bosterson Bishop Peak 4 miles 1,000 feet gained

Third hike in CA. Always a good view. The Angel's Rest of San Luis Obispo.

October 17, 2014 Jen Multnomah Creek Way 4 miles 500 feet gained

Mountain biking and mushroom hunting, the season has begun!

October 15, 2014 Karl 7 miles 1,500 feet gained

Hiked up to the highest point in Minnesota, ticking that one off a long and ever growing list. Have wanted to do this one for years, so it felt really good to finally bag it. Eagle Mountain is within the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness and soars to the impressive height of 2301' above sea level. Perhaps even more interesting is that it's only 13 miles ...

October 14, 2014 Bosterson Whale Peak 3.5 miles 1,250 feet gained

Second hike in CA. After stopping for breakfast in Carmel and driving by the beach, there were lots of other things to see on the drive through Big Sur, so we only went up to the bench on the Rocky Ridge trail and came back down. A favorite Monterey-area hike from my childhood.

October 14, 2014 Karl 4 miles 1,250 feet gained

Just another nice leg-stretching rehab hike along a creek in the north woods. Somehow we went the wrong direction on the Superior Hiking Trail, as we were looking for the deepest canyon in Minnesota. We found it near the end of the hike, on the other (west) side of County Road 58, and will go back there again. This one was just pure SHT, meandering up and do...

October 13, 2014 Bosterson Maple Falls 5 miles 500 feet gained

First hike on the CA trip. Not enough time to go farther, so just out and back to Maple Falls.

October 12, 2014 Karl 3 miles 750 feet gained

Another "rehab hike." Following a splendid brunch at [Naniboujou Lodge](http://www.naniboujou.com/) and subsequent stroll along the shore of Lake Superior, we crossed Highway 61 to Judge Magney State Park, and hiked along the Brule River past a beautiful waterfalls and finally to a most perplexing feature known as Devil's Kettle. The river splits at a falls,...

October 12, 2014 Jen Moody Island 5 miles 500 feet gained

Quick morning hike during a climbing weekend at Horsethief

October 12, 2014 Pablo Devils Rest 9.5 miles 3,000 feet gained

Devils Rest exerciser loop starting from Wahkeena.

October 11 to October 13, 2014 Chris Smith Lake 25.5 miles 8,750 feet gained 2 nights

An excellent weekend trip to these very nice lakes. We had some time trying to find the off trail route through the manzanita and oak trying to get up to Morris and Smith lakes, but once the path was found it was much easier going—quite a few nicks and scrapes! No one else seen once we left the Stuart Fork trail. A very nice trip, with nice weather. Highly r...

October 11, 2014 Stacey Vista Ridge 18.8 miles 4,750 feet gained

Our original plan was a weekend Timberline 360 with an overnight stay at Timberline Lodge. Unfortunately, the mountain had other plans. We started at Vista Ridge heading clockwise around Mt. Hood. Shortly after passing the Cooper Spur shelter, it started lightly hailing. That turned into sideways hail, snow, and thunderstorms as we crossed the exposed flanks...

October 10, 2014 Karl 3 miles 500 feet gained

First in a series of little "rehab hikes." (Pinched my sciatic nerve - ugh!) This was a lovely walk through the municipal campground and up to the top of a bluff that used to be the site of a fire lookout. On the way back, I followed the shoreline of Lake Superior and looped around the harbor bay in Grand Marais. The leaves were very colorful, but a bit past...

October 10 to October 12, 2014 Roman Flag Point 15 miles 3,000 feet gained 2 nights

3-day hike with a little trail RX. Oak woods were quite gold but the best color is still ahead (this or next weekend), the larches - ones that I saw - just started to change color. The trail above the camping area to Flag Point is completely clear of blowdown (!), would like to know who did such a huge work. I removed 19 logs (small and mid-size stuff, still...

October 6, 2014 JM 7.5 miles 1,500 feet gained

Also includes Vernazza to Corniglia the following day and the Sanctuary trail from above Monterosso to Vernazza. TR @ http://www.portlandhikers.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=20308

October 6, 2014 Woodswalker Cloud Cap Saddle Campground/Day Use 3 miles 1,000 feet gained

I'm starting to make some headway on a back injury, so I went up with a couple friends to see a little bit of Cooper Spur before the snows. We made it a little ways past the stone shelter on a beautiful clear day. Very few people, big views!

October 5, 2014 Father Guido Sarducci Juniper Ridge 8.24 miles 3,000 feet gained

Great views from both peaks, especially Sunrise with Rainier, Adams, St. Helens & Hood clearly in view. Sunrise peak used to be home to a fire watch tower & remnants of the old tower remain evident. This trail is used also by motorcycles so the trail it is quite rutted but we saw only one group of motorcycles the entire day.

October 4 to October 5, 2014 Water (Matt) Jefferson Park 15 miles 4,750 feet gained 1 night

I've been to Jefferson Park a few times and I've climbed Mt. Jefferson from the South one time many years ago, along with an attempt of the West Rib. But the North side of the mountain via Whitewater Glacier or Jefferson Park Glacier are probably the two most common routes. More than once I've eyed the various trails that seem to head off up the North Side o...

October 4 to October 5, 2014 Jen Goat Mountain 6 miles 2,000 feet gained 1 night

I've been wanting to get up to this Goat Mountain for years! Had a fun scrambe, then wandered around behind a gate off 8117 trying to get down to the Toutle. Camped at an amazing spot on a perfect night, warm, no wind, views, stars, moon, and owl.

October 3, 2014 acorn woodpecker Cooper Spur 16 miles 6,250 feet gained

Went up to Cooper Spur via Lamberson Spur. A very splendid day in the high country. Read my trip report on Portland Hikers that I have linked.

October 3, 2014 Jen Lamberson Butte 13.5 miles 3,000 feet gained

Gorgeous day on the mountain!

September 28, 2014 Pablo Yeon Mountain 17 miles 4,750 feet gained

Parked a bike at Multnomah Lodge and drove over to Nesmith Pt TH. Hiked up Nesmith, traveled Horsetail Creek to Bell Creek to Oneonta to Franklin to Larch Mtn and back to the Lodge. Biked back to Nesmith Pt TH. Bell Creek has never been in better shape. Horsetail Creek was all logged out, great day on well maintained trails.

September 27, 2014 Karl Berry Mountain 12 miles 2,750 feet gained

Had my first taste of Indian Heaven yesterday, and thoroughly enjoyed it. We started at the Falls Creek Horse Camp TH, and generally followed an abandoned (not on any map) trail through the Lakes Basin. This trail is somewhat overgrown, and gets very spotty around all the little lakes. You just sort of need to follow your nose, so to speak. From the basin, i...

September 26 to September 28, 2014 Stacey Mount Maddox 16.7 miles 3,500 feet gained 2 nights

Work sent me to central CA for a couple of day at the end of last week, which meant another weekend to locate another one of Shorty Lovelace's cabins in Kings Canyon NP. Our target this time, Shorty's "headquarters" in Crowley Canyon. This particular set of cabins was built somewhere around 1912. We got a late start, picking up permits at Grant Grove at 3pm....

September 25, 2014 Jen Multorpor Mountain 7 miles 1,500 feet gained

Goofing around in the woods on the mountain.

September 22, 2014 Woodswalker Lost Creek Nature 2.5 miles 500 feet gained

I'm still recovering from a back injury so , I did three easy hikes, Old Maid Flats, Little Zigzag falls, and up above Timberline Lodge towards Silcox Hut.
