Came down early to acclimate, and our climb was again pushed back another day , hoping for a weather window. So I did a little hiking around the mountain on Saturday, then we started our climb on Sunday. Weather was great, and 8 out of 10 of us summited.

Started at Park Creek summit and took the PCT to Deadfall Lakes. Loved the alpine parkland with Jeffrey Pines, Shasta firs and cool serpentine rocks all around. Was surprised to find big meadows of Darlingtonia at 8000 ft elevation. Mt Eddy is a former LO site, with some remnants, a very nice mountaintop with cool ridges to explore. I wandered along one of t...

Stayed mostly dry despite the forecast! Trail is in great shape.

Did the south end of Surveyors, which is always quieter. The blooms are just getting started. A couple of weeks, I think, if the weather stays cool. We started at the Clinger Springs area, where the trail comes next to Rd 44. We generally headed north, scrambling up a few small peaks on the way and going past Shellrock mountain. There are mountain bikers out...

Took the old trail up and down. Forgot how tough this one is.....accent is 4000' in 2.5 miles. Apparently the new trail is much more gradual but twice as long.

Came up via south scree fields and shimmied up a notch to gain Heartbreak Ridge. What a hoot!

Beautiful day amongst the wildflowers. Two easy hikes and ice cream to finish

No snow, beautiful views, and Glacier Lilies. Tanner Butte was looking amazing in the distance. Wonderful day!

Hiked the loop clockwise. Still lots of snow on the upper 1/3 of the trail.

Came up via the Oak Ridge Trail. Found some morels.

Finally tried the Triple C trail, plus a little out and back on Gales Creek, didnt last too long today. Soggy day, mucky trails, but the many hues of green were soothing.

Last minute decision to hit the Grand Canyon before a late night flight home. We revisited the same trail we did when our youngest was 5 years old and the others 8 and 9. We are so glad we started them out early because they still all love the outdoors.

What a slog! But weather was decent for once. Snow above 3500 ft, good consolidated boot tracks to follow today.

Did a lesser know area of Catherine Creek up at the top of Tracy Hill to an old Adirondack two-seater in a meadow. The lupine on the east side and higher up still hasn't bloomed. but al the mini flowers are at peak. Fantastic day and good company.

Had a trip to SE Oregon with several stops. I had a volunteer project with ONDA monitoring cattle impacts on BLM land near Juntura. Struggled with the weather, high winds, hail, rain, wet tent and stayed in hotel for two of the 4 nights. I went down to Chalk Basin, which is just magnificent. Stopped on my way home to hike Nine Mile Ridge east of Pendleton( s...

I walked from my house to join Keri Sprenger to do an urban loop while her wife got some dentistry done. We saw a goose tending an egg, multiple dragon boats, and lots of Portlanders worshipping the sun. Awesome afternoon.

All kinds of weather and trudging through wet snow. After gaining the south ridge near the vision pits, we decided that was enough. Got some of that sideways hail that stings your face on the way down.

Explored Spring Basin Wilderness near Clarno. We carried full backpacks but couldn't find a running spring, so circled back to car and camped near the trailhead. 13.5 mi 3000 ft. Next day explored bluffs above the river near Kent. 4 miles 500 ft.

I'd say the bloom is at peak below the ranch. Both Lupine and Balsam going well with some Phlox blooming. Super crowded which was to be expected, but lovely.

Started backpacking at 9pm and had a tired husband after a long week at work so we only hiked 3/4 mile in snowshoes to set up our tent. Stars were out, but not totally brilliant. Smoke from AZ? High thin clouds? With so much snow and a clear day, Timberline was packed to the brim and turning away people coming up at 9am. We vacated a spot for someone.

New route for me with a little offtrail. Balsam root still is going strong and will be for a while. Lupine is just starting. Great hike.

A slow pace and a tight schedule made for a short hike. We started at Newberry Road, heading east along the Wildwood. The powerline was draped over the parking area. Tons of trees were down, but only a few required a roundabout off-trail. But it was pretty thick. Super nice. Trilliums and Violets were blooming, and other blooms were starting to pop. Lovely d...

At the coast with the hubs for the weekend. We visited the Ecola Forest Preserve, then hiked Neahkahnie after the snow storm. Breaking trail on a tourist hike, and getting bombed by slushballs, fun times.

Super fun loop. We headed north from the Hamilton Saddle and continued up out of the park on a brushy abandoned road. We hit a gravel road and took it west until it looped south and when we were directly below Phlox Point on the east side did a short 250' off trail to the top. Steep and super brushy but very short. Fat fluffy snowflakes were blowing all arou...

We were supposed to do Hamilton, but I convinced our leaders that a group of 16 on a Sunday was too high of an impact. Dont want to be part of a boorish herd of Mazamas. Only one other person had been here before, and everyone loved it. Spectacular finish with Cloud Point and some sketchy down climbing, the students got a real adventure hike. Hope I didn't s...

This was a dumb idea. We turned around at 6200 ft. 100s of others out there too in this lousy weather, what were they thinking?

Had a great day up Herman Creek. We took Nick Eaton Way Trail up to the ridgeline and headed south. to about a half-mile past the Deadwood Trail. We decided to go down that way. Nick Eaton was a bit brushy past PK 3152 but not much blowdown. There is no longer a sign at the junction with the Deadwood trail and it's faint, snowed over, and has blowdown coveri...

My first snow trip up there. There were no tracks, and the trail was often unapparent. There were huge sections of no snow lower down, but pretty quickly, we needed spikes, and it was still challenging and hard to kick steps in, in some places. Navigation is definitely required, and even with a track, the trail was often not a good route. But the sun was out...
