An easy, rewarding hike to a beautiful blue lake set in a lovely cirque below the rocky Early Winter Spires and the Liberty Bell. It was still half frozen over, but fish rippled in the open parts, feasting on mosquitoes. There was an old cabin right on the lakeshore from days long gone.

Amazing dayhike to the top of Maple Pass, w/ a sidetrip to Lake Ann. Wonderful meadows w/ glacier lillies just starting to pop, pasque flower, etc. The views were awesome, and so were the little larch trees along the way. I bet they are stellar in the fall. Fantastic day! No bugs and lots of shade loving flowers in the woods. The flowers in the saddle were at peak bloom and the beargrass was blooming in patches from just below Burnt lake to the top. A little hazy but all five volcanoes were visible. Went a bit beyond the top but decided it was to hot to explore further.

Took off from Grouse Vista up to the Indian Pits to Silver Star to Sturgeon Rock then back via Tarbell. I planned to hit Little Baldy but it was just too hot so I wimped out. A nice hike, in a wilderness that starts a short distance from I-90 spanning overhead - very cool. Denny Creek is beautiful. I started around three, so I did not have a lot of time to explore the lake area, which was very pretty, and surprisingly, had only 2 sets of campers when I arrived.
