August 19, 2017 Karl 15 miles 3,250 feet gained

Followed the PCT from Barlow Pass up to Timberline Lodge, which was a lovely stretch of trail new to both of us. Up top, we realized neither of us had ever followed the Mountaineer Trail up to the top of of Magic Mile, either, so we made a high loop of it to stretch out the day a bit more. Delightful!

August 17 to August 20, 2017 Roman 17.7 miles 3,750 feet gained 3 nights

Drove in Thu night after work; did a variation of classic loop, about 1/2 off-trail but never far from it. Finally nice temps, low 60's during the day, low 40's at night (almost cold!) with some clouds - it really felt great for a change. Still plenty of water/streams but flowers only left in a few places.

Managed to find a little bubble of blue sky in a sea of brown air. Wonderful day. Definitely going back. I really recommend going further than the rim along the use path. Totally incredible.

August 9, 2017 Jen 8 miles 2,250 feet gained

There is nothing better than swimming in an alpine lake on a hot day.

August 9, 2017 Woodswalker 9 miles 2,500 feet gained

Despite the heat and smoke it was a wonderful quiet day on the mountain. Just saw one person on the trail. Flowers are mostly cooked out. We went up Newton Creek Trail til it hit the Timberline Trail, Then headed over towards the Clark drainage. Instead of going down into the drainage we headed up the ridge between the Clark and Newton drainages, above the T...

While 7 Lakes Basin is the go to place to see lakes in the ONP this area is a less crowded alternative once you get above Lower Lena Lake.....which is not in the ONP so no permit is required. We got a late start & spent the first night at Lower Lena. Next day we hoofed it up to Upper Lena Lake. Trail is fairly steep, rocky, rooty, dusty, muddy, brushy & gets...

August 5 to August 6, 2017 Roman 5.63 miles 1,750 feet gained 1 night

Had a busy Saturday, so trip near town worked perfect - started at 8:15 pm, up ski lift road by moonlight (no flashlight needed), camped in the same location. It was awesome night, so clear and bright! On Sunday woke up to smoke and it quickly became hot, I explored more ridges, then found a shady spot to sit and read, with great view of the mountain. Amazin...

July 29 to July 30, 2017 Roman 7 miles 1,750 feet gained 1 night

Covered some new terrain Saturday afternoon (track of 3 last trips here - still a lot of gaps in between but now I scratched the surface ;), found new meadows and viewpoints, everything looks really good right now in peak bloom. The mountain was very nice in moonlight; saw ...

Got another late start ~~ as in 6:15pm and made it to a secluded spot on rocks on a ridge for the night. Incredible views. Bugs were pretty bad heading up and then again mid morning coming down from the shelter.

July 28, 2017 Karl 19 miles 4,750 feet gained

Nice to pay our respects, again... Best view in the backcountry, too.

July 25, 2017 Woodswalker 13.4 miles 3,000 feet gained

Nice long meander. Some of the flowers are completely prime right now. Other patches are not even out from under the snow yet. Some bugs mid hike. Some really gnarly blowdown near the jct between the Timberline trail and the south part of the loop.I strolled up above Split Rock. It was awesome, but a bit smokey.

July 19, 2017 Jen 9 miles 1,250 feet gained

Leisurely three day trip with friends. We stayed at a cabin on the edge of the NF. Did a little bit of everything: mountain biking, hotsprings, kayaking and even visited the Oregon Hell Hole. Our hikes were around Warner Peak and Moon Point where the beargrass and wildflower meadows were terrific.

July 19, 2017 Woodswalker 16.2 miles 5,000 feet gained

Fantastic day, with a great trail friend, getting up to Barrett Spur and sitting with the glaciers. The bugs weren't to bad, the flowers at Elk Cove are just getting started, but the dwarf blooms on the ridge tops are great!!

July 17 to July 21, 2017 Father Guido Sarducci 35 miles 13,000 feet gained 4 nights

Made base camp @ Boulder Shelter & then day hiked from there to Marmot Pass, climbing Buckhorn Mtn. Then Home Lake, Constance Pass & Del Monte Ridge. On the final day hiked to and around Charlia Lake.

Quick get away to spend the night under the stars and check out the new trail crossing the Elliott. Looking forward to crossing the next time we need to. The trail is beautiful and I'm especially thankful for all the workers who fixed it up for us!

July 13 to July 16, 2017 Jen 26.5 miles 5,250 feet gained 3 nights

I took a few days to travel around exploring in Washington. Car camped in remote spots. Saw a bear in the Dark Divide, marmots and goats in MRNP, and shooting stars at night. 1) Big Creek Trail near Lewis River, 2 miles 300 ft eg 2) FS 9341 Road walk. On my way to the Snagtooth TH, there is a rock slide blocking the road 3 miles from TH. I walked up to the T...

What can I say? It's one of my summer classics. Flowers are gorgeous and the views sublime. Did a short add on to about 6600' feet for better views and just because. No sign of the ice caves, that I could see.

July 8, 2017 Roman 7 miles 2,500 feet gained

Up S ridge, down N ridge with Ben. Visited a couple false summits on the way. Fun scramble, lots of slide alder on N side!

July 8 to July 9, 2017 runandsew 8 miles 2,000 feet gained 1 night

Plan B because we weren't going to get to the trail head until 8pm due to work. Full moon and a little wind for a beautiful night.
