February 25, 2011 Jen 6 miles 2,000 feet gained

4 inches of fresh untracked powder starting at the Devils Way trail. Unfortunately my camera battery died after taking one picture.

February 25 to February 26, 2011 Kyle Meyer 5.5 miles 500 feet gained 1 night

My friend Kevin & I tried to cross-country 5.5 miles through untouched powder to Thomas Lake in Indian Heaven, couldn't find our way across a creek for almost a mile, climbed a hill too steep to be enjoyable while mashing through two feet of powder, figured out the dumb navigational mistake we had made straight from the trailhead (taking trail 150 southwest ...

February 20, 2011 Allison 6.5 miles 1,000 feet gained

A loop on the Sasquatch trails. Snow was really heavy and the weather was spotty.

February 20, 2011 Justin Wright 7 miles 2,750 feet gained

Hiked up Dog Mountain and found a bunch of snow. Did the less difficult trail up and the more difficult trail down.

February 20, 2011 Phoebe "BertMoss" 4.5 miles 1,000 feet gained

I was surprised by what a busy day it was on this trail, on a chilly February Sunday. I saw about 2 dozen people. I guess the 3 day weekend had a lot of people out and about.

February 19 to February 21, 2011 Gary 12.5 miles 1,000 feet gained 2 nights

*Day 1* Over the past week we've checked the maps and pictures of the wilderness we found online. We had a rough plan of action, starting at the Collins Ridge trail head. There was no other vehicles in the parking lot, checking the registration log, it appeared no one had entered the wilderness from here for a while. We had a good hike along the Devils Backb...

February 19, 2011 Water (Matt) 12 miles 5,500 feet gained

beautiful day. hood had a nasty looking lenticular over it all day long while St. Helens was in the sun. Glad I got to chill in the warming hut one last time at Marble Mnt. SnoPark before it burned down.

February 19, 2011 Jen 5 miles 250 feet gained

This was a really fun hike down a gorgeous canyon in the high desert. We started at White River Falls, explored some cool old buildings from the old power plant, and then meandered down to the Deschutes.

February 19, 2011 Anne S. 4 miles 1,750 feet gained

Didn't make it to the cliffs, returned the way I came up due to hip-deep snow at the summit. Turnoff at the ridge tricky to find, had to bushwhack up to the ridge and saw the trail only on the return trip.

February 19, 2011 Kyle Meyer 14 miles 4,750 feet gained

The single biggest thing I learned from this hike is what nutrition can do for you. I'd say this was, by the numbers, the most ambitious hike I'd gone on, covering 14 miles and climbing nearly 5000', much of which breaking trail in snowshoes. But, I tried a Hammer Nutrition product called Perpeteum, a powdered mix made for >2 hour endurance exercise, and I'v...

February 19, 2011 Finn 6 miles 750 feet gained

Beautiful sunny day but cold. Water line for my hydration system froze. Was wearing snowshoes for the upper portions of the hike.

February 19, 2011 Chris 5 miles 750 feet gained

Perfect snow for snowshoeing down at Santiam Pass yesterday. The squeaky kind. Seeing clear skies in the forecast, I thought I'd head down and enjoy the weather. Needless to say, no clear skies, but some great new snow. My nerves were rattled when, after missing the turn and passing the 20/22 intersection, amidst strong winds and blowing snow, a Ford Explore...

February 18 to February 20, 2011 simaulius 21 miles 250 feet gained 2 nights

Arrived 2pm Friday. Parked at the entrance and hiked roads and trails down to the cave. Spent night #1 in a shelter above the cave, night #2 under a spinntarp next to the Half Breed Cemetary. No wind, light sprinkles Sat night, 100% humidity with that lovely cold fog covering the loess hills. Great solo hike. Nobody else around.

February 18, 2011 Greg 9 miles 1,750 feet gained

Plenty of bushwhacking down the hill to (and back up from) Little Luckiamute Falls, followed by exploration of the first several miles of the old trail (much of it is overgrown).
