This was a really fun hike down a gorgeous canyon in the high desert. We started at White River Falls, explored some cool old buildings from the old power plant, and then meandered down to the Deschutes.

Didn't make it to the cliffs, returned the way I came up due to hip-deep snow at the summit. Turnoff at the ridge tricky to find, had to bushwhack up to the ridge and saw the trail only on the return trip.

The single biggest thing I learned from this hike is what nutrition can do for you. Arrived 2pm Friday. Parked at the entrance and hiked roads and trails down to the cave. Spent night #1 in a shelter above the cave, night #2 under a spinntarp next to the Half Breed Cemetary. No wind, light sprinkles Sat night, 100% humidity with that lovely cold fog covering the loess hills. Great solo hike. Nobody else around.
