I almost made it to the point, but there was too much snow for my feet in my five fingers. I tried but they were getting too cold. If I had regular boots it would have been fine. Either way the hike was great. Not too many people on the trail, and not much snow really until the top, probably less than half a mile to the point, where the trail was totally cov...

Went up the right branch Hamilton Mtn trail and down the longer Hardy Creek Trail to make a loop. Last minute afternoon hike - went from car (in lower parking at Beacon Rock because it was a weekday and the gate was closed) to summit in 1 hr!

This morning we went on a short 3 mile hike on the Silver trail at Busiek State Forest and Wildlife Area. The hike might have been short but it included two, two hundred foot ascents. We’ve been slacking and not hiking much recently, so we’re a bit out of condition. We paused briefly half way up the first hill to catch our breath and take this picture. The t...

This was my second attemp to hike Eagle Creek, I failed again and only got to the second cliff area where you can hold onto the cable. I really really want to hike to high bridge but my fear of heights has not allowed me as of yet. Poor BertMoss she has been with me both times when I freaked out so she hasn't been able to get farther either.

Did all of this hike but the last 30ish feet because the sound of the power lines were freaking me out, went with BertMoss.

I had seen this Wauna Viewpoint in my hiking book, but had always dismissed it. Today we gave it a try before heading out on Eagle Creek. It was lovely clear day and we had some pretty nice views for January, despite the power lines.

Rainy day, steep and difficult going. Felt stronger towards the top. No views at top, and nowhere to sit for lunch. Maybe better in the summer?

Beautiful Falls. Loved this little hike. Got a lot of sunshine and saw a large group of hikers coming down from Hamilton Mt on our way in.

From Kowloon to reservoirs, white-sand beaches, mountains; it is great. If you don't bring enough food/water you can purchase from vending machines. Just will cost a lot. I couldn't finish the third, and final, day of the trail because I drank untreated water, and ran out of food far from next rest stop. It's a 100 km trail that is a different Hong Kong than...

I placed a game camera in the Cedar Creek area behind Aldrich Butte and returned several times in Jan and February. No luck with critter shots.

Didn't want to spend another expensive night in hotel, so I hiked until I found a little picnic area to camp. Hiked a couple sections that run next to a park at the top of a hill that is a short, steep hike, or a bus ride away from downtown. Birds singing in morning was nice.

Spurred on by the need to do something we decided to go out and hike somewhere new. Ginger picked Compton Hollow Conservation Area, about 20 miles East of Springfield. By the time we’d got there it was already past 3pm, and I was feeling justified in bringing along my headlamp ‘just in case’. As it turned out we finished our hike at half past five, with the ...

Pics on flickr: pieterpan. Arrived at Stone Forest in Yunnan Province in evening after hitching a ride in a black Audi (usually inhabited by rich guys driving like hell on wheels, sending pedestrians scattering). 20+ feet tall karst pillars in various shapes with trails winding around and through them, covering a 400+ acre area. All paths are paved (being in...
