This was a beautiful day, and the wildflowers are certainly in bloom. Unfortunately, the trail is very unclear, so we ended up kind of making our own, treading lightly and around as many of the flowers as possible. Climbed up to the top of the area, an un-named mountain to the East of Stacker Butte. We decided to name it Moundtain.

Today we intended on biking on the Historic Columbia River state trail from Hood River to Mosier and another short jaunt on the trail farther west, but the bike rack was being very uncooperative so hiking it was! Made a short trip up Hood River Mountain to check out the wildflowers. Lots of Balsamroot are blooming and a few Indian Paintbrush are poking up he...

Shane and I went on a day hike out to see the wildflowers. Unfortunately, the WTA reference we used was horribly inaccurate or too vague about where we were supposed to go, and so we lost the trail through random land and probably ended up wandering through private property. We climbed the unnamed 2800' mountain next to where we initially intended, saw tons ...

May 11, 2011 Justin Wright 9 miles 3,000 feet gained

Hiked up Cook Hill today, which is Dog Mountain's slightly taller neighbor to the East. Despite the overcast weather you could see a bit of Mt. Hood and Mt. Adams. Very fun trail but it required moving a lot of branches since it's not used very often.

May 10, 2011 jon 9 miles 3,750 feet gained

Had a great morning with this hike. Snow on the trail became continuous around 3100', but was packed in pretty well. Snowshoes were helpful, but aren't necessary.

May 10, 2011 Eric Peterson 5.5 miles 1,000 feet gained

Started at the Japanese Garden and hiked up through the Hoyt Arboretum down to Burnside using the Wildwood trail that runs through Forest Park. Crossing Burnside after work at rush hour was a thrill all in itself! Hiked up to Pittock and down the back to Cornell and made a small balloon out of this by coming back up Upper MaCleay trail that meets Wildwood an...

May 10, 2011 Jen 12 miles 5,500 feet gained

Gorgeous day to hike up MSH. Pretty mushy though, had to wear snowshoes the whole route up.

May 9, 2011 Roman 3 miles 250 feet gained

Usual stuff - lots of dirt on trail, complete solitude. I can't say why but studying there is much easier than studying at home.

May 9, 2011 Chris 6 miles 2,000 feet gained

This is what happens when you skim trip reports for instructions but don't read carefully because "eh, you'll just figure it out when you get there" Originally intended to do Kings via Kings Jr. Started up the old jeep road and I guess I was on the right track but turned back too soon because things were looking untrodden so I thought I went too far. After f...

May 8, 2011 Eric Peterson 8 miles 3,000 feet gained

Started at Kings Mountain trail head, went west on the Wilson River trail to check out Lester Creek and look for those C and CASS blue markers Mayhem mentioned on PDX Hikers. Went back to get up Kings JR that intersects with Kings MT trail at the 2200' level, cruised up to Kings and met a nice young couple warning me not to make the Kings to Elk traverse. Ha...

May 8, 2011 Justin Wright 13 miles 3,250 feet gained

Tried to hike up to Larch Mountain from Multnomah Falls but didn't quite make it. At around 3300 feet we decided to turn around. It was snowing pretty hard and the visibility wasn't so great. Figured there wouldn't be a view at the top anyway. There's definitely a fair amount of snow left and I can imagine there's a lot more as you get up towards the top. Wi...

May 8, 2011 Heather&Wein 6 miles 2,000 feet gained

went for a quick little walk in the woods. It was POURING rain on our way down through Salem, but by the time we got to the trailhead..the rain let up quite a bit. Only saw one other couple on the trail. Nice to get out and see some beautiful blue/green/clear water!

May 7 to May 8, 2011 Shane 16 miles 1,500 feet gained 1 night

The forecast must have kept most people from venturing out this weekend. We only saw a handful of people on the hike out to 7.5 Mile Camp. While it was supposed to rain the whole time, we never saw more than some spats of rain until about dinner time. The rain didn't let up until morning though, so no hope of a campfire. It was beautiful out on Sunday, hardl...

May 7, 2011 Justin Wright 11 miles 750 feet gained

Did a quick day hike along Eagle Creek. We went just passed the 4.5 mile bridge and stopped for lunch before turning back. Also went down and checked out Punchbowl Falls.

May 7, 2011 Jen 6 miles 750 feet gained

One of my favorite loops in FP. I started at Germanton Rd and took the Wildwood NW to Newton Rd- love that trail. Up BPA powerline- best elevation gain in the park, back on the Wildwood.

May 7, 2011 Timberwolf 14.5 miles 3,500 feet gained

I couldn't believe how many miles this actually was. It ended up being a very long day! There was not one soul on Nick Eaton Ridge, but then ran into a few people on a side trip to Wahkeena Spring, which is really bubbling right now! It rained most of the time, but the sky cleared by the end of the day. absolutely gorgeous in the gorge! :)

May 7 to May 8, 2011 Eric Thompson 10 miles 4,500 feet gained 1 night

got a really late start, so i needed something close to town with a campsite just a few miles in. angels rest. got to the TH at about 6pm and started booking it uphill. i've never been up there. sign at the main parking says "day use only" but that's the state park rules, no signs pertaining to overnight parking. i got off without a ticket at the overflow pa...

May 6, 2011 Chris 8 miles 2,000 feet gained

Parked at the recently renamed Alexander Hamilton Trailhead. Pretty windy and rainy so I went up and back the back side just to the ridge - a good call as it was cold, wet and gale-r-ific at the top.

May 5, 2011 Roman 7.5 miles 1,000 feet gained

Another hike with my dad (I hope he takes on hiking). We went to the canyon overlook. Beautiful trail, I want to camp there when I'm finally done with my classes.

May 5, 2011 Jen 5 miles 750 feet gained

ATC mileage. Started down by the St Johns Bridge, went up Fireland 7A- trail petered out into a bushwack, still beautiful! Took Lief Ericson to Hardesty, then back down on the Ridge trail.

May 4, 2011 Roman 4 miles 750 feet gained

My dad had a day off (and I have short Wednesdays) so we headed to Hood River to take some pictures of blooming gardens. However, we were at least a week early; the trees just begin to bloom. We headed to nearby Hood River Mountain and it was a treat - I never seen so little people there. There were just 3 cars at trailhead when we started. Instead of making...

May 4, 2011 Kyle Meyer 20.5 miles 6,000 feet gained

Four of us took work off Wednesday and decided to attempt Chinidere Mountain. We planned a loop, from Herman Creek Trailhead to the Pacific Crest Trail, Chinidere, and back down the Herman Creek trail. Needless to say, we didn't make it; we made it within 2 miles of Chinidere but the snow was too soft on the exposed faces toward the end of the hike. We made ...

May 4, 2011 Justin Wright 10 miles 2,250 feet gained

Perfect weather for a hike so I went and did the Hamilton Mountain Loop again. Much different than the last time when it was snowing at the top. Explored a few of the Equestrian trails as well but didn't find anything interesting.

May 2, 2011 Chris 12 miles 2,750 feet gained

Wish I had a real camera with me - the gorge was looking super awesome today with the sun breaks.

May 1, 2011 Roman 7.5 miles 1,500 feet gained

Did a loop through Labyrinth first, then down Coyote Wall on Wizard and return via Coyote Canyon trail. The way I planned didn't work out (it's Labyrinth after all) but still a great hike, it definitely felt like summer today! There was a lot of desert parsley in bloom, many others, including balsamroot.

May 1, 2011 Eric Peterson 11 miles 3,500 feet gained

Started at the Oneonta TH parking area headed up to Triple Falls to cross the bridge. Then about 3/10ths of a mile headed up the rock debris field to hit Horsetail Creek Trail. Hit that trail to get to the Bell Creek Way trail to make a balloon loop back over to Oneonta trail to get back to the car. A lot of up and down on this, probably even more than the 3...

May 1, 2011 Heather&Wein 6 miles 1,000 feet gained

Tried to make it to Ramona Falls - had to cross the river after all the high floods and had to break trail through the knee-deep snow (sans snowshoes). Had to turn back about .25 from the falls :( End of the trail and we didn't realize how close we were. Beautiful weather and Wrangell loved every minute of it! Great spot to stop and picnic in the middle of t...

This one climbs like a homesick angel to an amazing viewpoint.

April 30 to May 1, 2011 Water (Matt) 13 miles 1,000 feet gained 1 night

Kara ran errands and I changed the car's oil in the driveway before leaving town at a liesurely 12:30, onto the road with lunch by 1pm. A nice night out camping under the stars with a nice cedar-wood fire. I forgot the camera's memory card and so am sans beautiful pictures of the azure Lewis river and verdant and lucious moss carpet that blankets the forest ...

April 30, 2011 Jen 9 miles 3,750 feet gained

Great day for this hike. Made the first tracks in new snow from earlier this week. Snow started around 2900. Still pretty deep on top of the Benson Plateau. We had lunch in a sunny XMas wonderland while trees bombed us as the snow dropped off the branches. Several in our party had done this hike before, but we still wandered around the eerie plateau for awhi...

April 29 to April 30, 2011 Kyle Meyer 9 miles 3,000 feet gained 1 night

Really quick overnight with my friend Jon. We left the city at 5pm and made it to the trailhead by 6:30 due to traffic and gas-getting. We made it to Deadwood Camp at about 8:30, put up our shelter, and built a small, damp fire. There was nothing too exciting about the hike as hikes go, although we hadn't had enough time to do the side trail down to Indian P...
