A quick trip up Siouxon Creek Saturday morning. This still is one of my favorite places in the area. The river crossing to Wildcat Falls was chest-deep, and I almost got carried away with the current on my first attempt, but I was able to find a crossing a little farther down that was only waist-deep which was a little safer—kind of exhilarating.

Early morning run to beat the crowds and I had the trail to myself. I was hoping to see some whales, but no luck this year. I will include a picture from 2006 to show that this is the best whale watching spot (on land) in Oregon!

April 14 to April 15, 2012 Kyle Meyer 6 miles 250 feet gained 1 night

Easy trip out to our typical campsite on Siouxon Creek. My wife Christy came out for the first time this year and we introduced another friend to backpacking for the first time. The road is in good shape after last year's repairs, making the drive more pleasurable as well! Beautiful weather, beautiful raging creek, and beautiful night sleeping in a bivy unde...

Good thing about long days is that you can start a hike at 3 pm, hang out on the summit for an hour, and be back at your car before dark.

There are a lot of nice small hiking trails in my town of Groton, MA. This was a trip that me and my wife took mainly to take some photos for her photography class, and to get some exercise for our dog. It is a really easy and laid back trail with some surprisingly stunning views of the landscape of Groton. We will definitely be looking into all of the other...

Stunning as always, upper viewpoint to Mult Falls is washed away, big piece of the the stonework down in the creek. Went for a little walk, scared myself with some slick exposure, ran down from the falls back to Wakeena.

An absolutely beautiful day. Just me and the dog and lots of snow. Lost the trail more than once and when I found it, it was a wee bit too difficult to follow due to blowdowns. Never did make it to the lake but had a heck of a workout.

Finally did this little loop - started from Aldrich Butte TH and went clockwise. There is a trail/use path for maybe 95% of the way and where obscure it was well flagged so its not a bushwhack per se. However, it turned out to be a lot more elevation gain than I expected - I'd rate it harder than nearby Hamilton Mtn. I didn't have to deal with brush or snow ...

Beautiful day for Dog Mountain. The sky was clear and we could see forever in all directions. Flowers weren't blooming yet and there was some snow but still a good day.

Mad Cars in the Lot. I counted 26 on Sat at Noon. Wow. Too Windy for Nick Eaton and Indian Pt. We went down and up towards PCT/Pinnacles, Then on to above Dry creek falls. I-84 was blustery and the Columbia had serious whitecaps. Pics Later

Had just a couple of hours and didn't want to spend time driving, and this equestrian park is pretty close to my home. The park now undergoes reconstruction and they are putting gravel on dirt trails, but most trails are still as soggy as they are between October and July ;) Which means I had my share of solitude. Nice day to be out.

April 7, 2012 Father Guido Sarducci 8.5 miles 2,750 feet gained

Highpoint Trail, TMT & West TMT to peak 1. Snow on the trail the last mile but microspikes not used. Hiked the road to peak 2 and then took the TMT back to the Highpoint Trail and then back to the TH. Much less snow on the descending trails.

April 6 to April 8, 2012 Nick of the woods 1 miles 0 feet gained 2 nights

Canoe trip with students. Good weather, warmer than usual. Last year there was still snow on the ground. Fishing was good and no one flipped any canoes over this time.

April 5, 2012 Jen 7 miles 1,750 feet gained

I had a nice rambling loop up through the Labyrinth and down through the vision quest pits area wet of Catherine Creek.

Started at Horsetail. Then Behind Ponytail. South Towards Larch, stopped at the east/west confluence of the creek. Back down Oneonta side, walked through the tunnel back to the rig. Props to Allan for the join!

Originally we started out just wanting to do the trail to Pittock Mansion. I did it a two years ago when training for the Camino de Santiago and thought it would be a nice hike to do after the Next Adventure Warehouse Sale. We got up to Pittock Mansion and felt like we could walk some more, so we went down to the Japanese Gardens, stopped for lunch and then ...

March 31, 2012 Jen 5 miles 500 feet gained

Took Balch Creek up to the Wildwood and looped around the Audbon trails.

March 30 to March 31, 2012 isaac 17.6 miles 1,500 feet gained 1 night

Hiked through rain, then hail, then lightning, then more rain. A bit scary. Ended up getting a fire going as it continued to rain through the night. Got up, ate, and hit the trail, leaving all our stuff at the campsite, since this would be an out-and-back. Did a majority of the hiking this day up to Albright Grove. Very large trees. Made it back to camp, pac...

March 30 to April 1, 2012 Tom 7.5 miles 250 feet gained 2 nights

Me and Brandon drove up to tettegouche state spark to meet up with Ben and Amber at the campsite. It was super windy and rainy that first night. Brandon and I hung our hammocks about 15 feet from the cliff looking over lake superior! The next day we hit the trail and it was slow going through the wet and slippery snow. When we stopped for lunch (got a late s...

Standard day on the track. But do to all the recent rains, the Multnomah creek drainage was hustlin' Because Wakeena is spring fed, most of the creek was jus a little over normal, but I could hear the roar of Multnomah creek one ridge-line before dropping into the drainage. A little slip into the creek would be certain death at a few of the spots above the m...

March 30, 2012 Jen 3 miles 250 feet gained

Rain dumping, totally soaked. Had to turn back at Metlako Falls because of a dicey creek crossing. We planned to try another trail, but upon returning to the parking lot, we lost all motivation to hike for the rest of the day. Stuffed our faces instead.

March 29, 2012 WildBill9685 7.5 miles 2,000 feet gained

Nice hike, it was pouring this day though. I discovered my waterproof jacket was not PNW proof.

March 28, 2012 Chris 5.5 miles 750 feet gained

Did a little exploring along the Riverside Trail, on a fork of the Clackamas north of the Ripplebrook ranger station. This is a nice little-trodden section which gets some of the pre-alpine forest. The snow was just about gone around 2000ft.
