Couldn't have been a nicer day in the Coast Range than it was yesterday! Did the classic Elk-Kings loop with Crusak and Payslee, and we all remembered again that 12 more grueling (but fun!) miles are hard to find. Trilliums everywhere down low, glacier lilies up above. No ocean in view!

What a fine day to climb up Ruckel Ridge to "the Platter" (source: Pablo), skirt along the Benson Way to the PCT, and drop down to the 400 to finish the loop. Lots of calypso orchids and glacier lilies on Ruckel Ridge. One or two chocolate lilies. The only snow was a quarter-mile section along the Benson Plateau, otherwise it's green and springlike up there....

Not a dog friendly hike. But incredible and I could have spent MUCH more time here. Bats in the walls, hot and desert on top cold and snow in the deep parts, this was one of the strangest things I have ever seen. A helluva long drive to get there.

Miles available along the Deshutes River, the largest Ponderosa Pine in Oregon, McGregor Memorial Viewpoint... too many miles to just walk around this would be best served by a mountain bike trip, and it connects to Falls Creek Trails as well.

Bosterson and I went up ROA via RJ, checked out the cabins, poked around off ROA ridge, and took Horsetail Creek Trail back down to Oneonta Creek for the standard return loop. The bypass to avoid the Oneonta ford is getting more and more defined. A wet day, particularly in the end.
