Roommate, Steven, and I hiked the length of TLG in one day, and stayed overnight at a hostel. It was dry season, so the waterfalls were not as powerful as the stains on the cliffs show they will be in summer. One very steep section, but mostly even path in very deep gorge. Pics on flickr: pieterpan

Started at Homer Wilson Ranch. Fresno was flowing well. Juniper Spring actually had water. Bypassed the Basin on the Colima Trail to make an early camp the last night and have some time to relax and explore.

headed up to Muir on a sunny day in the New Year. Long drive for a day-snowshoe from PDX, but worth it--Rainier is something else for sure. Decided to head back just shy of Muir on account of the gate at longmire closing at 6pm. Lovely day to get out. My first real winter snow hike! Hah hah, okay, so this was really easy, but aside from mountain snowfields on sunny hot days, I've never hiked in the snow before. It was fantastic and I'm super excited to do more winter hiking.

Beautiful little mountain on the edge of Guangzhou. Has a large bird sanctuary. The path is paved, but there are many dirt trails to secluded spots. Many birds, views, and electric shuttles if you tire.

Missed fall colors by a month. Glacier can cost over RMB 400 to see after costs of bus and cable-car inside park. Went up a valley, got good views of some mountains. Slept in a Tibetan village, in a hay shed since the only family home wouldn't take us in. It was nice. Pics on flickr: pieterpan

No snow, except dusting on lookout ridge. Much of the "back door" hiking approach was stairs. Too late for fall colors, too early for snow, much too early for spring blossoms on rhody's and azaleas. Good views of Xiling Mountain proper from where cable-car drops off. You can hike much of the way down instead of cable car.

No bears, no bugs, nobody... a perfect trip. Poles took the stress off my knee. Tarp overnight outside of Cooke City, got dark way-too early. Hitched back to Mammoth, in time for lunch Sunday.
