July 24, 2010 Anne S. Spruce Ridge 4 miles 0 feet gained

Visited Crater Lake for the first time, but it was early season so there was still snow and mosquitoes at the higher trailheads. Headed down to Diamond lake to camp, and did a short hike around the lake. Extremely crowded, families, dogs, RVs, etc. but fun atmosphere and beautiful evening. Amazing place, can't wait to go back.

July 19, 2010 Anne S. Trillium Lake Campground 5 miles 1,500 feet gained

This was really fun. Took the dogs, and they're not real athletic. Mirror Lake was okay, kind of crowded, but the bird's eye view of Government Camp from the top and the eye-level perspective of the ski slopes on Palmer Glacier were pretty great. Ollalie Butte and Jeff behind us were a nice change of scenery. This is a good family hike if you're ready to swe...

July 16, 2010 Anne S. Huffman Peak 5 miles 750 feet gained

Love this trail for its remoteness and beauty. Never done the whole thing, usually join my husband while he mountain bikes. Good for swimming and trail running. Difficult to get to - road was washed out for a while, but is accessible again.

July 15 to July 19, 2010 Allison Summit 66 miles 8,500 feet gained 4 nights

4.5 days/4 nights - solo backpack along the PCT from the Summit TH at Mt. McLoughlin, through the Sky Lakes Wilderness, across the Oregon Desert, to the rim of Crater Lake. Nights at Island Lake, the base of Devil's Peak, near the Goose Egg, and lovely Dutton Camp in Crater Lake National Park. A metric ton of mosquitoes.

Really cool place. Giant dolite, huge cave with many side caves, strange rock formations (eroded limestone in pillars and animal shapes), Bo people hanging coffins, and paths to walk through all this. It's at the top of a mountainous area, so great views, too!

July 11 to July 12, 2010 Josh Mayer 15 miles 0 feet gained 1 night

Beautiful forest of bamboo on a plateau. Lots of waterfalls, a lake, temples, and small farms. Made famous in the West in "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon." Pics on flickr: pieterpan.

July 10, 2010 Anne S. South Saddle Mountain 5 miles 1,500 feet gained

What? I thought this was supposed to be an easy one! Surprisingly strenuous, but overall quick and over way too soon. Lots of touristy features, and quite an ugly summit. But we took some of our best wildflower photos on this hike, and it was nice to get out of the Gorge. Not my favorite hike ever, but definitely worth it.

June 27, 2010 Allison Lower Canyon Creek Campground 5.5 miles 250 feet gained

June 20 to June 21, 2010 Josh Mayer 20 miles 0 feet gained 1 night

One of four, most holy Buddhist mountains in China. Many "special" sites. Monkey zones where you must fend off the rascals. Much colder at 3,000+ km top. Stairs the whole way, as is the norm at popular places. There is a short cave. Despite its fame, many NW mountain or gorge hikes are as good or better. Pics on flickr: pieterpan

June 18, 2010 Anne S. Augspurger 3.5 miles 1,000 feet gained

Wow, terrible day. Really out of shape. Had a tantrum and quit. Gotta go running.

Went on a national holiday. Huge mistake. Had to walk last two miles to entrance because of traffic. One of famous Taoist mountains in China. Many famous, "special" things to see. It was like hiking in a mall during Black Friday.

Nice view of Cascades at trailhead. Tall waterfall facing south, so lots of sun on it. Some nice lakes further on.

February 9, 2010 Josh Mayer Coney Lake 6 miles 0 feet gained

Not a maintained trail. Some very steep parts. Mailbox at top with a ledger awaiting your signature.
