Hyak Ski Tour - 1st Harvest of Spring Corn 2018
2 miles of hiking • 2250' elevation gain •
After a week of being sick and laying around on the couch, I decided it was time to get up and get some fresh air. The forecast looked nice for Sat and my buddy Theo had a free day from family duties. We decided it would be a great day for harvesting corn. We got a leisurely start and began making laps just before noon. The main face had enough morning sun and was almost in prime shape for our 1st lap, but as the day progressed.... everything just kept getting better and better. There were big smiles and lots of who-hoooo's being had by all. Pretty low key day on the mountain given the nice weather and a great start to the spring ski season!!!

Cave Ridge Trail via Commonwealth Basin
5.5 miles of hiking • 2000' elevation gain •
Had a great day out with my buddy Simon and Jason. The snow was stellar and it actually bonded fairly well to the rain crust that was buried 30" below. Wishing that I would have brought my ski's instead of slowshoes. I brought my dog Mindy with us on this trip and her age is finally starting to show. It was a long tough day for her, but she pushed through it like a champ. I suspected she was struggling earlier in the season when she couldn't keep up with me on the ski slopes anymore and it was taking her 3 days to recover at home. It breaks my heart when I have to leave the house without her, she gets so excited and then has a breakdown when she doesn't get to go. I will just have to plan for some smaller outings this year to keep her happy =)

Source Lake Adventure
2.5 miles of hiking • 1250' elevation gain •
Had a nice day out with Jason & Theo last weekend. The forecast called for sunny skies and the stoke was high. Our original intent was to climb Bryant Peak. We thought that with the recent rain and layer of crust on top of the new snow that conditions were going to be optimal for climbing. The avy report was low and the (3) OG's had confirmed for a 7:00 a.m. meet up. Little did we know that the snow conditions were going to be poor above source lake. Opting to leave snowshoes behind and haul up crampons for the climb turned out to be the downfall of the day. I have a long love hate relationship with my slowshoes and today proved to be just one of those days. After an hour of postholing and going in well over my thighs with every step, I decided to call it a day. Dang it...should have brought those slowshoes after all!!!!!! Theo and Jason carried on for a few more hours, but had a slow go of it as well. Ahhh to be less than 200lbs again!! LOL All and all it was a good day out with my good friends and it was capped off with some adult beverages at DruBru.
