Wonderful overnight hike that treks along the Withlacoochee River on both sides. There is a primitive camp site at the merge of the Withlacoochee and Suwannee rivers. Day 2 takes you past the state's largest oak tree.

Started out in fleece, rain gear on about 10 minutes in. Clouds everywhere, Archer was as far as I could see to the east, Bosterson was lost in the clouds over on Table. Totally soaked, the road walk back to the car sucked. good lap, nice alternative to the typical oregon walks. (devils, angels,MF,triple)

We tried to make it to Bells Mt. Summit from Moulton Falls, but there doesn't seem to be any way to get there easily. There is significant new logging on the Bells Mt. Trail, which isn't very appealing. Saw a half dozen hikers trail was fairly devoid of people. Some views of the valley but none of Mt. St. Helens.

December 3, 2012 Bosterson 15 miles 4,500 feet gained

Late start (1:30pm), light rain. 35 minutes to Angel's Rest, 1:15 (cumulative) to Devil's, 2:30 (cumulative) to the Lodge. Then back up up up, darkness setting in around Fairy Falls, headlamp at Wahkeena Springs, going down the rocks of Angel's in the dark slowed me down. 4:45 total time for the loop.

December 2, 2012 Roman 7.32 miles 2,000 feet gained

We hiked School Canyon (upper) trail to Helispot and Rock garden just below from there. Had mostly sunny weather, just a trace of snow at the high point and some wicked wind, but we were prepared for the cold and had a great time. The sign on road 43 @ SR26 say the road is closed Dec. 1 - Apr 1 but it was almost snow-free and we (along with other cars) used ...

We felt like staying out of the heavy rain today so we headed east to the Cathering Creek area. We were greeted by a full rainbow! Temperatures were nice and cool but the best part was the amount of sunshine we saw all day! I was lucky enough to see a couple of deer head down toward Catherine Creek before disappearing. We only saw two couples the whole day. ...

December 1, 2012 Mileage Mike 7.9 miles 2,000 feet gained

I tried something very different today. I went to the Jones Creek OHV trail system. You may ask why? It turns out that the trail system closes to all motorized vehicles from Dec. 1 through Apr. 22! The trail system was empty, and it was in very good shape (for the most part) for hiking. The unfortunate part is that we took a wrong turn, several times! We sti...

November 26, 2012 Bosterson 14 miles 4,000 feet gained

Did Larch with the Multnomah Creek Way (444) lollipop at the end, but saw how close it got to Sherrard Point before it went back east way out of the way, and decided to fulfill a longstanding desire to climb the face direct. Went up a gully and across a talus field and ended up in a gully up to the NE ridge, which had some sketchy 4th class stuff, especially...

November 25, 2012 Roman 13.5 miles 2,250 feet gained

We started near Gray Butte, did a loop around Smith Rocks, and back long way uphill. The trail on the back side of Smith Rocks have been completely rebuilt some time in the summer, with wide, gentle switchbacks replacing former rocky & steep path (the reason we made it CW direction is to come up that part; used to be too steep to come down safely). We also v...

November 25, 2012 Mileage Mike 8.2 miles 750 feet gained

Sunny and cool day at beautiful Silver Falls! We didn't meet anyone (only a few people on the trail near South Falls) on the trail despite there being a huge number of cars in the South Falls parking lot. It could be because we spent the majority of the time in the backcountry!

November 24 to November 26, 2012 Barnaby B. 6 miles 6,000 feet gained 2 nights

Went with my awesome friend Nicky, and her friend Bryce. We drove from Austin, spent 2 nights in one of the only mountainous areas of Texas, and drove back. The views are wonderful, the trails are great. Bring lots of water!

November 24, 2012 Mileage Mike 6.3 miles 1,500 feet gained

We had heard that there was a possible trail at the end of a road past the gate near Table Rock Wilderness. We set out to explore this and found there was no trail. After this short exploration we took the trail into Table Rock Wilderness. We didn't make it too far as we needed to get back to the car before dark. It was a spectacular moody day with drizzle f...

Decided to do a repeat of the Four Mile Trail the day after Thanksgiving. The past two weeks (since our last attempt) has been warm and dry, so we thought that this might be the last chance for awhile to visit Glacier Point without the mammoth size Yosemite crowds (unless we ski or snowshoe 24 miles). We arrived at a full TH at 10am. We drove to the next par...

November 23, 2012 Mileage Mike 6.2 miles 1,750 feet gained

Extremely wet day but we were adequately prepared. We attempted to connect from the other side of the Cinnamom Trail (from the Kalama Horse Camp) but got too late a start. We were short by about .4 miles! The trail is in excellent shape, and we hit some snow at about 2900ft. Nobody was on the trail or parked at the horse camp; figure that? We were about 100f...

Parked at MF. (we never do that) Went up MF, then over on 400 to the Elevator Shaft. Played around a bit. Looked for trail. Anyone know what the heavy use path a bit east of the rockslide is called? does it go to Nesika? Anyway east on 400, down and up in Oneoneta Gorge, Beers in the cave under ponytail. Downpour walking back. Soaked. We were the only ones a...

Took a short hike with two of my sons to show them Wahclella Falls. We also hiked a short distance on the historic hwy but turned around due to exhaust fumes from I84. Beautiful sunny day and the trail was crowded, but you still can't beat the scenery!

November 19, 2012 Courtney Basik 3.5 miles 1,500 feet gained

Impromptu Boulder hike. We hiked up to the Royal Arch and hung out between a couple of Flatirons for the afternoon and I did the whole thing in Sperry Docksiders. Skills.

November 18, 2012 Mileage Mike 8.4 miles 1,000 feet gained

What an incredibly cold wet/rainy day, but we were quite prepared. We saw the Kalama Falls trail from a previous hike and decided to try it. Last time we lost the trail in the snow. I wasn't sure how far it was and thought we overshot it. We ended up stopping at a flooded area. When we got home we looked at the maps and saw we were about 6/10 mile away from ...

November 17, 2012 Mileage Mike 5.2 miles 2,000 feet gained

What a fantastic hiking day! I wasn't sure what the weather would be, and it was pouring rain during the entire hike out. There were NO hikers on the trail. This trail does nothing but go down, down and down. Most of the altitude lost is in the last 1 to 1-1/2 miles before reaching the creek. Eagle Creek was quite spectacular, but we didn't cross due to high...

November 16, 2012 Roman 13 miles 1,000 feet gained

Spent 2 great days at the Deschutes with my grandmother, hardly had any rain (10 minutes on Sat.) and there was even some sun! Quite a change after driving through downpour in the Gorge. There's some neat trails in the first 3 miles along the river; allows skipping some of the road and see better river views. We also found (on my 3rd try) a trail to Ferry Sp...

November 15, 2012 John Williams 2.2 miles 750 feet gained

Short, snowy hike to check out some of the oldest, largest Alaska-cedars in Oregon.

November 12, 2012 Stacey 6 miles 2,000 feet gained

We got a late start (noon) on the Four Mile Trail. With icy, snowy conditions and an early sunset, we spent a little under 4 hours hiking the 6 mile RT to Union Point.

November 12, 2012 Mileage Mike 6.3 miles 250 feet gained

Cloudy and drizzly day at the Klickitat Railroad Trail. Nobody on the trail and plenty of views of the Klickitat River. Saw some fisherman wading and they mentioned having caught some Steelhead. Yum, Yum! It's a bit long of a drive on such a short day. We'll probably not venture out this far until it starts getting darker later.

November 11, 2012 Mileage Mike 7.6 miles 1,500 feet gained

A very nice day for a hike at Herman Creek! We met Sean Thomas at the TH, coming back from his hike. The parking lot was full but we only saw a few groups on the trail. Nobody was seen on the way back.

November 10 to November 11, 2012 Kyle Meyer 9 miles 2,000 feet gained 1 night

This turned out to be much more snowy than I expected. We hiked to Cast Lake from the south Burnt Lake trailhead up road 2701. That road **sucks.** Once we got on the trail, snow started in earnest and we ended up sleeping on about six inches. It was beautiful to see the forest just before it gets buried for the winter.

November 10, 2012 Chris 6.5 miles 1,750 feet gained

Mt. Hood never came out despite the nice weather. About 1-2" of snow on the ground made for a nice hike.

November 10, 2012 Mileage Mike 6.6 miles 1,500 feet gained

Cool, cloudy with some cold wind made for an exhilarating day! There were a few groups of hikers, and some bicycle riders, but the highlight of the day was bumping into a WTA team that was building a new trail on the syncline. Evidently, the forest service has taken over management of the area and wants to make improvements. The new signage looks great, and ...

November 9, 2012 Father Guido Sarducci 8 miles 250 feet gained

Wife was spending the afternoon @ her pottery studio in the Stadium District so decided an urban hike would be a nice change of pace. Hiked from the Stadium District down to Old Town. Then from Old Town along the waterfront to Ruston. Hiked back basically the same way.

That area is a whole unmapped labyrinth, with many trails on the map nonexistent on the ground, and vice versa. Even 2/3 of the road I hiked back is not on the map. Some trails are good, others are hard to follow, even with the flagging. I didn't go to the actual top of Huckleberry Mtn. but the ridge top is very nice, with a lot of rhododendrons and beargras...
