8.5 miles of hiking • 4250' elevation gain • 1 night

Went with Kyle and some other friends. Summiting wasn't in the cards this weekend, unfortunately.

Did you guys separate? KM listed 5k' for his EG on the same trip :) Going to get me a Helens in this year!

Yeah, Kyle's EG should be a little bit more than mine.

Unfortunately as our group of four got higher up the mountain, one friend started really struggling, and we ended up putting a good amount of distance on him in a short amount of time. After discussing our options, I opted to throw my crampons on and descend back to check on him, while Kyle and our other buddy would keep going to see if the ice was going to get worse.

When I got back down to our struggling friend, we chatted for a bit, ate some food, and then decided that it'd be best to turn around. Around the same time, I could see the other two coming back over the lip of the false summit, so it was apparent that they decided to turn around as well. The only real bummer was that there wasn't enough fresh snow for glissading, so I ended up punishing my quads on the return.

I'm not sure if you've made it to MSH yet, but if not, I'm sure you'll love it. The Worm Flows (winter) route has some gorgeous scenery once you get out of the trees!

Ahh, I see, I figured for some reason you guys separated, maybe it was the picture of someone way way back that gave me that idea.

I have yet to do any St. Helens and it's on my 2012 to do list for sure :)
