8.5 miles of hiking • 2250' elevation gain •

A bit of a recliner hike, after not having been out much lately. Really nice loop through a new (to me) wilderness. Absolutely phenomenal views from the "antique" lookout. We counted 11 stratovolcanoes, ranging from Rainier to the Three Sisters. Fall colors were better on the roads to/from the trailhead, and seem to be fading fast at elevation. Spotted quite a smoke plume in the vicinity of Deschutes NF (perhaps a prescribed burn?). Absolutely worth the drive; go on a clear day!

Roman hearts this trip.

Why would you call this a recliner hike karl? We all know how macho you are, you dont need to rub it in. Why not just enjoy the day and keep the testosterone to yourself.

Statistically, it's somewhat similar to Hamilton Mountain -- a hike that's routinely recommended to beginners. Though at 3/4 the EG and nearly twice the approach distance, the climb is far more gentle; like the PCT, never something a horse couldn't do. Regardless, contrary to what I assume you read to be disparaging in some way, I use the word "recliner" to indicate an incredibly relaxing and rewarding release of serotonin. :-)

Karl, I'm sorry I wrote this, tried to delete it but couldn't. I need to learn that after a few glasses of wine, I need to shut my snarky mouth and stay away from the internets.

No worries, Jen! I've been posting stuff for 30+ years, and still can't restrain myself as often as I wish. (As I'm sure you've noticed "from time to time"?) We really need to get out together sometime, so the non-verbal things come through better, too. :-)
