Mt Defiance

What an awesome day for good views and perfect weather!! Trail was BUGGY though all the way up. There was snow once you hit the tree line and up on the main service road- 5 feet deep in some places. Watch out, the temp drops a solid 10 degrees in the shaded snowy spots. I opted to take the service road after the boulder field, which was a wise choice.

Views were spactacular, of course :0) Made it up in 2:30 and down in 2:30. Saw a little family and an ultrarunner. O, and lot's of spider webs. This was my 3.5 time, and it will always be my fave!! Planning on doing the Triple D in September!!

Nice report!

Eric, are you guys really going to do it? I'm definitely not in, but I could bring a grill up the back way and do breakfast, brats and beer, or something :)

Chris, we're still trying to figure out how much snow is really up there. From VM's TR on PDX, it looked snow free but Kim's TR here I see snow. But I'm about 60% sure that I'm going to at least attempt 2 x Defiance on July 2...

Fun!! If I didn't work Saturdays I totally would!! That would be amazing! So, there's not much snow @ the top by the power station. It covers the road almost completely, with about 3-4 feet of compact snow and ice. When you hit the tree line, you start to see patches in the shade. Once you get into the boulder field, you have to climb over big chunks of snow up to 5 feet deep. The higher you go on the trail, the deeper and more spread out it is. I followed the road to avoid getting lost or sunk!
