A group trip with shuttle. It appears the Box Camp trail has had some recent rehab, and may be newer. Great views from that trail, and the road isn't as bad as the ranger suggested. We made a quick trip up Marble Gap as well—a worthwhile side trip.

Superb landscape! I've never had the chance to go there, but it is definitely on my radar! Would enjoy a description if you ever get around to it. :)

Sure thing—but if you're in the area, I'd go to the Alps before I'd go to the Marbles. It's a neat area with some interesting features, but not quite as impressive as the Alps, and I hear the cows come to graze for the summer around mid-June.

I've done this trip, but without the climb up the Marble Rim and I sorely regret it. It's such an interesting geological feature! We lost the Box Camp Trail last summer and bushwhacked the length of the ridge to the PCT. Not recommended. RIP to a pair of expensive sunglasses somewhere in the vicinity. You'll have to head over to the ABCD Lakes next!

It appears they just redid the Box Camp Trail—it's very easy to follow now and there are several access points from the old logging roads. It's a great alternative to get to the PCT faster (and higher) than Lovers Camp.
