Torrential downpours, extreme wind, flooding etc kept us from doing a lot of the hiking we had planned for the Redwoods. Many places inaccessible due to flooding (Ex: Fern Canyon) And some old growth areas (Tall Trees Grove) were off limits due to high winds and the danger of "widow maker" limbs falling from wayyyy highhhh up. It was my first visit to LadyBird, LOVED IT! And naturally with the weather conditions we had the whole trail to ourselves.

Tall trees grove... and widow makers--it is apt to close this during high winds, or seriously post 'use at your own risk' signs.

Last summer when there in good weather, noticed number of widow makers that had fallen point-first into the trail. I have some pictures I could post--we're talking 12-16 inch diameter branch at the big end, sticking 6+ foot up out of the ground, and maybe 2-3 foot of it in the ground, who knows how how deep--basically I couldn't get it to budge and inch. It is gruesome to think of something like that hitting a person.

glad you liked LadyBird.. it is a pretty place and nice to know she was there to dedicate it. We too had it more or less to ourselves.
