No Discovery Pass required at State Parks this weekend, and the day was looking pretty nice, so I decided to do a quick test run with some new equipment on the classic Hamilton Mountain loop. Even though it's November, I sure seemed to run into a lot of folks out there.

Yeah, I had a good idea where it was, so I took off looking for it. Might be we're talking about different ones though? This one was just a bit off the main Hamilton Mtn trail, right after the power lines.
I'm pretty sure it is the same cabin, been there right after last January's monsoon (not sure if the link will work) http://wenthiking.com/users/6-roman/hikes/1318-the-quest-for-hardy-hamilton-shortcut Describing its location above equestrian trail I was thinking more in terms of slope line (i.e. how the ball would roll), rather than in terms of approach.
Now I'm thinking if it's worth to buy Discover Pass again this winter. As much as I'm opposed paying to hike, it's one of my favorite places in the Gorge.
I found a pretty good page showing how to add links, or other formatting, here using Markdown syntax.
Just looked at your link - yes, that's definitely the same place! That was a sweet hike you had there. I've wanted to find a route between those two trails, myself.
I really like that park, too. Pretty sure I've tracked every trail in it. Will probably get another pass at some point, but there are a good number of free days upcoming. They just posted the list for 2014:
- Jan. 19 and 20 – In honor of Martin Luther King Day
- March 19 – In honor of Washington State Parks' 101st birthday
- April 19 – Spring Saturday Free Day
- April 22 – Earth Day
- May 11 – Spring Sunday Free Day
- June 1 – National Trails
- June 7 and 8 – Get Outdoors Day
- Aug. 25 – In honor of National Park Service’s birthday
- Sept. 27 –National Public Lands Day
- Nov. 10 – Veteran's Day weekend
Wow - that's many free days! Thanks Karl.

Cool - you found that old cabin above equestrian trail. I run into it by chance couple of years ago, didn't expect it at all.
