14.5 miles of hiking • 0' elevation gain • 4 nights

This was a pretty fun but grueling trip! About 7 1/2 miles on sand and toward the end of the hike in, you had to climb up a plateau once your legs were shot. You had to time the tides just right after about 4 miles or you were going to be pinched up against some rocks for a few hours.

Along the beach, there was a dead great white shark with a huge bite taken out of it. And after we went to bed for the night, a mama black bear and cub roamed around our camp site. Aside from those scary run ins, it was pretty fun! However, you better bring a bear canister for your food because there are no trees near by to hang your food.

Great views and great weather! There are trails heading away from the coast, so I think I'll try those out next go around.

Wow. This is definitely high on my todo list. I'd love to hear and see more from your trip. What's it like to be so truly far away from civilization?

We weren't too far from civilization. However, being out there felt pretty desolate compared to the multitude of hikes I have done over the years. But there is definitely no shortage of wildlife considering that a raccoon weaseled into my pack during a short lunch excursion and ate my favorite meal and breakfast (ranger station was closed, so we couldn't get a canister). Being out there felt like true hiking into the unknown, having no idea what the next day was going to bring. Felt like it was a true exploration even though many have trekked this before.
