We stayed one week in Edinburgh and decided to rent a little cottage in Lochinver for the second week, which is next to Loch Assynt. So a few hours north west of Loch Ness/Inverness. That seemed to be the best location to explore the area and allowed us to drive as far as Cape Wrath with enough sunlight to hike.
The only problem we had was the weather...I wouldn't suggest going there during winter, it's pretty brutal. Just about every day had frozen rain / hail with wind gusts up to 90 mph. That made it pretty challanging to keep the camera dry and from fogging up...heck it was difficult enough to keep myself dry, even with waterproof clothing and shoes! I can't say I've ever heard the wind smash against a cliff as loud as that day either..nevermind that it knocked me off my feet once or twice.
But chances are I'll go back eventually, I didn't get to see as much as I would've liked to! The only positive thing about going there during winter is that you're unlikely to ever see another person on a hike...and that always makes for a great experience.
How did I miss this before? This is incredible! Thank you so much for sharing this. That landscape looks magical.

Wow, these pictures are stellar. From the map, I gather this is way up in the Highlands north of Loch Ness and Skye? I never made it up that far, but now I kind of want to immediately hop a plane out there...
