Started late, and only hiked to the shelter. Flowers are very nice higher on the trail, just notch past their peak.

Watched helicopter circling west side of Mt. Hood for over 1.5 hours, then almost landing on Yocum Ridge (there wasn't flat place to land but it spent good 10 minutes hanging just above the ground at one spot). Some hikers mentioned somebody have been lost since Aug 12 so helicopter could've searching for missing person.

View from Bald Mtn Pond #1 almost dried up Pond #2 IMHO, Timberline trail goes way too low on the mountain and misses the best views. That's where it could be more scenic There was maybe 30-40 feet of snow left on the trail, just before McNeil Just read the history of McNeil shelter; it looks crumbling and such, but it's amazing it stands almost 80 years already Helicopter is hard to see but it's there

Nat - yes, I found that post yesterday:(

Everyone on the mountain was wondering what's going on, I first thought in line of training flight or firefighters (since it was a T-storm with lightning a night before), then someone mentioned a missing hiker, then the copter slowed near upper Yocum Ridge and it became clear it's an active SAR mission.
