Our first walk in the desert, and on our 1st anniversary. This was a nice way to experience a very unfamiliar landscape as the trail was short and we were in the presence of 700 year old petroglyphs. Really fascinating.

Very cool! hope you are enjoying NM! when you get a weekend, maybe in the fall or spring (or winter if you don't mind the cold).. I HIGHLY recommend this place near Questa:

I've been there twice, once in December and once in September. Both times it was incredible without really many people there. We camped on the rim because I wanted a great sunrise/sunset view--but the lean-tos down by the river look wonderful. Big Arsnic springs is incredibly beautiful--really the whole area is, would make a super weekend trip--god I wish I could get back there and make a nice ponderosa or piñyon pine fire.. maybe lay a nice sprig of sage onto it.. mmm

congratulations on your 1st Anniversary! We are at 2 months! :]

btw what brought your move to NM? Schooling, family, found work, military, or just a desire to live there??

Thank you so much for the trail suggestion—there are so many great trails out here that we don't know where to start!

We have moved here because my husband is starting grad school at UNM Albuquerque.

Now to figure out how people find water on a long hike in the desert...
