This is a highly used trail. I like this hike for many reasons: it is within reasonable driving distance from my home, I can hike as a single female, I get to meet all kinds of different people and it is great for conditioning. It is not a hike for any kind of solitude.

Snow line at mile 2 - stopped and put on my microspikes. As the elevation gained the snow got to about 6" but the trail is used so much that it was well packed and easy to travel. 2 hours to ascend. The view was very limited at the top because of the cloud cover but it wasn't to cold. The camp robbers (gray jays) were thick and fluffy looking with their winter attire - as always looking for free handouts. On the way down the temp was warming up and a few times I got cooled down real quick when the snow from the trees would drop and dump into the neck of my coat. 1 1/2 hours to descend.

I still haven't hiked to the top of hay stack - and not sure that I will.
