We actually didn't take the path to the top that I had planned...never really saw the turn to the left that we were looking for. Instead we ended up a trail that looked like it was for ATV straight up to the top. The trip was a couple of miles shorter than it should have been and we missed a spring that I was desperately looking forward to escaping the heat in. Maybe we'll try to again in a couple of years.
The view at the top of Stable Mesa was very nice, although I think it'd be its best with snow still on the ground.
