6 miles of hiking • 1750' elevation gain •

Albuquerque, NM

First real hike since finding out I'm pregnant. I did Mt. Taylor when I was 4 or 5 weeks but I wasn't feeling any different, then.

So, we thought that we would take this trail up to some point from which we could view the annular eclipse, but quickly realized that the second half of the hike was deep in a canyon with heavy tree cover and no views of the sun at the time the eclipse was going to be taking place. This was a nice, wooded trail with a running stream along most of the path—it reminded me of hiking back east. Anyway we went up until probably a 1/2 mile before the end of the trail, up to about right under where the tramway goes overhead (which means we didn't get to the TWA crash site...not sure if I regret that, though) and decided to head back down to the parking lot just in time to catch the partial eclipse beginning. And we saw some happy naked people enjoying the stream on our way back. The eclipse was amazing.
