19 miles of hiking • 4000' elevation gain • 1 night

Yocum Ridge was awesome! The hike description from Portland hiker's field guide is very helpful however I would say that this hike (backpacking) should not be rated difficult.. It was long very long but not steep (enough to say difficult) at any given point. The first four miles are packed with the usual 'im hiking with sandals' type of people all heading to Ramona Falls, then once you get to the timberline trail no one is there.. we made camp on the other side of Yocum ridge overlooking Sandy Glacier instead of Reid (where the official Yocum Ridge trail ends) we took the climber's trail around the ridge and camped down a rocky scramble in a meadow .. it was just perfect lots of snow and fresh water :)
